Friday's Random 5

I picked the worst day of the week yesterday to get groceries.  But I had some other necessary errands to run so it had to be done.  It was rainy and chilly!  We're supposed to warm up again so maybe the robins will finally make an appearance in our back yard.  They seem to be a little late this year.

I'm still unable to read as much as I'd like.  Hope this passes soon.  I used to have a doctor (he's retired now) who had much the same problems I do with vertigo, only worse.  He had to have a new striped carpet taken out of his office because it made him dizzy walking over it.  I kid you not!

This news item made me smile.  A Fort Worth woman just celebrated her 104th birthday.  She credits drinking Dr. Pepper, 3 a day, for her longevity.  She said that "every doctor says that they'll kill you, but they die and I don't.  So there must be a mistake somewhere."

It seems there is a lot of the color orange to be seen this spring.  In clothes and home decorating items.  I bought an orangey top a week ago, but I don't have anything orange in my house except the real thing which I ate this morning!  Do you love the color orange?

Here's a strange...we've had 2 dead possums on the shoulder of the highway not far from our house.  This morning I see another one dead in our back yard. What is going on?

Linking to Tanya's Willy Nilly Friday 5

Happy Friday to you!
xo Cheryl

  1. wonder if possums are like skunks and start traveling around at night during 'rutting' season and are getting killed. but the one in your backyard... i don't do much orange. :) laughed at the ft. worth woman. :)

  2. #1 Ah, to see a robin!
    #2 Vertigo is awful.
#3 Her doctor didn't go to Dr. Pepper College.
#4 I happen to be fond of black tee shirts myself. They are rarely in style nor are they out of style.
#5 The first two weren't able to cross the road and the third never tried.

  3. I would bet that it is possum mating season! It has been skunk mating season, and many are dead, so why not possums? My son will LOVE it when I tell him about the Doctor Pepper!!! It is his favorite drink and we try to always have some cans in the fridge for him. LOVE orange!!

  4. I don't know about possums, but I have smelled several dead skunks since this rain started. It won't be long and it will be the turtles trying to cross the road. I knew there had to be something good about Dr. Pepper!

  6. maybe cars hit them or maybe you have a predator, like a coyote or something after the possums. are you sure they are dead or just playing possum? LOL
Vertigo is horrible. i have had it 3 times in the past 15 years, but mine went away after 3 or 4 days. i don't know how you stand it hanging on like that. i get dizzy spells but not the vertigo where the rooms spins and the bed spns... to funny on the Doc Pepper... my dad lived to 93 and parkinson's killed him, but other than that he was healthy with no other disease, not even BP problems. he ate eggs, bacon, toast and jelly every single morning of his life, lived on beef and pork and meat and bread and potatoes... go figure

  7. We have robins and redbuds finally. Saw the first Indian paintbrush blooming yesterday and I actually saw some buds on the bluebonnets. Everybody in blog land seems so desperate for spring this year. It's been a long rough winter for most of us. I too saw the story about he 104-year-old birthday girl yesterday! Too bad I don't like Dr. Pepper!

  8. Sorry to hear about the vertigo. I've only had it a few times, for short periods of time, but know it's no fun. Loved the 104 yo lady story. I used to be a Dr. Pepper drinker myself, but for the last few years, it's been water, tea and juice. Maybe I should go back to it :)
    Hope you're better soon.

  9. Cheryl, My husband had a bout of vertigo a couple years ago. The dr. gave him a couple exercises to do and it took it away. One was to hang his head over the side over the bed as he was lying there and just hold his head out for a minute or two. Both sides. Then he made a dot the size of a quarter, held it out in front of him looking at the dot....turning his head from side to side slowly but always looking at the dot. He did this a couple weeks and the vertigo left him. Then my husband got the bill and said why would I pay that bill he didn't do anything for me? LOL...I said you are cured, aren't you honey?...he paid the bill. :):) You could look this up online...to check it out.I have not , I only know it worked. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  10. I read about that Dr. Pepper woman. I think some people can live/eat/drink any way they want and still live to a ripe old age!

  11. Dead opossums...kind've worrisome! Love the color orange for spring as well as fall! That Dr. Pepper woman was so cute...glad it worked for her! :-) I sure hope your vertigo improves. I would just wither up and die if I couldn't read or do needlework!

  12. Hi Cheryl!

It's been too long!! I'm so sorry you have vertigo! I hope it passes soon . . . :0( I saw a big fat Robin in my backyard this morning, it gives me hope that Spring is on the way!

I don't have very many orange things in my house, or in my closet, but, I do like orange. It's a popular color this year.

I'm not sure I want to live to be 104, but I do love, Dr. Pepper!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  13. We have large flocks of robins this time of year.

My husband used to have occasional bouts with vertigo. I understand that ginger is a good antidote for dizziness. I prayed for you, though --- that's the best antidote!

  16. I have to tell my grandma about the 104 yr old. My grandma and mother love Dr Pepper! I love an orange-red color...very powerful and happy. :)
I've done a lot of wildlife rescue and I've checked many possum pouches for babies. a lot of times they are still alive after the mother dies, but you have to get them to a wildlife rehabilitation center.
    Happy Spring!

  17. Dr. Pepper? you got to love that story. I do like orange...it's not a color that everyone can easily wear, but I seem to be able to do so. I also have some orange in my living room rug. I've seen several Robins hanging out in our yard....I'm so ready for Spring, so I welcome them. Hope you have a big weekend planned....enjoy

  19. Hi There, Spring has brought us rain/fog/dreariness here --but at least not SNOW/ICE.... I love orange --but mainly because that is the color of my favorite team, the Tennessee Volunteers.... I heard that Dr. Pepper story on TV today... Great story... One never knows about what to eat/drink and what not to.... Oh Well.... Can't imagine what is happening to the possums. Maybe cars got the ones by the road... BUT-the one in your backyard??? Not sure.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  20. It is interesting about the possums. Hope it's not a disease or that they're being hunted? Some of my pots and pans are orange. So I like the color. Bet your top is real pretty. Enjoy.

  21. While you are seeing dead possums, we are seeing dead skunks! Seems every spring this happens! I do like orange and I think it is "in" this season, too. ;) blessings ~ tanna

  22. The robins have been here a week all ready. Surely you will see them soon--maybe today??
I love orange so much that most of my inside walls are orange. I know--a bit much but I love it.

  23. Oh my, two dead possums and then a third one. I hope that they did not eat something that was spoiled and got them sick.

  24. Seems like someone put some poison out, Not good!
I had a mouse problem this past winter so bad that I had to call Orkin. I would not allow them to put poison traps in the crawl space because of the Owl and Hawks nearby. Why don't people think about that before the do such things.
I've seen a few Robins and anxious for the yearly nest in my Magnolia.

  25. Love your randomness! ~smile! Orange is okay...(actually it's the color representing MS). But can't say I have much orange things..

That's weird about the possems. Wonder if it's environmental?

Hope you get some real springlike weather soon! Robins are so wonderful to watch and hear.

    Blessings,
    Gert

  26. I love birds with orange.. Robins, Towhees! I am not big on wearing orange. I seem to be stuck on red, white, and black. Hope your vertigo leaves pronto! I food shopped on Friday at Walmart.. it was crazy. Don't know about the possums but there are lots of dead animal bodies on highway 54 going to Jeff. Spring is here.. for a few days Cheryl! Enjoy your Sunday!

  30. What a hoot that Dr. Pepper lady is!
Just goes to show you, we're all wired a bit differently, and we're all unique.....

I do love the orange colors that we're seeing in fashion and home décor; they are cheerful colors.

Hope this week is a wonderful one for you.

  31. I love that Dr. Pepper lady. Everyone always asks me how I look so young for 63. I tell them it must be all the preservatives in my diet coke I drink. hehe....

  32. Love your photo of the robin, Cheryl! I haven't seen any here as yet. We've had beautiful weather but I know more snow will come before summer arrives. We need the moisture so it won't be a bad thing.
When my children were young back in the early 80's I had a lot of orange in my house and now it is my son's favorite color! I still like rust and autumn colors and my house has a lot of that in it, even though blue is my favorite color!
Do you have inner ear problems? I've heard for two people recently who had crystals in their ears that caused vertigo.Hope you feel better soon!
