Friday's Five

I need help.  It's so hard for me to resist a bargain in magazines and books, even though I need more like I need another hole in my head.  The bundles of magazines and the book were at my favorite thrift shop Wednesday and I grabbed them along with the cute mugs.

Aren't they just the cutest?  I love the little bee with the raised wings.  They have to be handwashed, which is pain for someone who loves her dishwasher, and I don't know where I'll put them, but I'll make room somehow.  They just cried to come home with me, too.

After shooing Stormy and her nose out of the mugs that I set up for the photo, she decided to take a nap on a stack of place mats.  I love that girl and you know she gets away with about anything.

We had a good rain Wednesday night and I went to The Project (other house) to check the closet where we had discovered mold and it was wet around the baseboard.  Phooey.  BG's patching job didn't quite do the trick.  We knew a new roof over the addition to the house was needed and would have to wait for better weather.  We were hoping though that the patching would keep out moisture until then.  Didn't happen.

BG and I are going out for dinner tonight.  We have a gift certificate at a steak house we haven't used yet.  So that is probably where we'll be going.  Do you have big plans for the weekend?  Hope it is a good one!

  1. Those mugs you found are the sweetest things ever. I LOVE the bees too. Stormy looks so peaceful. Enjoy your dinner out. we are going to a Broadway show that has come to town. Will be nice to get out and about. Going to be cold though. Sorry to hear about the water damage to your project. We've dealt with such things too and it is never fun to fix. Always a huge expense when you least need it. GOOD LUCK.

  2. Sigh - I need help too, it's exactly my problem!
But the cups are so very nice (would be happy about such a find) who could resist interesting books and journals?
I regularly sort things out with a heavy heart to make room for new stuff...
My favorite photo is the cat, of course.
    Have a nice weekend

  3. The mugs looks very cute. The color and the design in them attracts me. As like humans cats also like to sleep in new things...

  4. The mugs are very pretty. I am at the stage of throwing out in my life but collecting more! It also means there is not as much work or clutter in my mind.

  6. oh my gosh, i love those mugs!! i used to buy books and magazines like crazy...everytime i'd be in the checkout at the grocery store, i'd get a new magazine and i'd flip through it at home then it would sit...it was hard to break the habit but i really can't remember the last time i purchased a magazine! same with books...i just love books...i'd get them off ebay, book stores, where ever! i ended up with so much magazine and book clutter that i just stopped buying them...i especially love cookbooks but now mostly just use pinterest for recipes and when i am ready for a new book to read i head to goodwill or look on amazon....i've really gotten pretty good at not buying more, only when needed and then i've even gotten good at getting rid of it after i've read it! anyways...sorry for the lengthy comment on books and mags haha...your kitty looks so sweet and comfy there :) thank you for linking up and enjoy that steakhouse, yum!

  7. the cups are really pretty and so is Stormy, poor Stormy who is not allowed to sniff the cups.. phooey on the mold and moisture... the steak house sounds great and is FREE nothing better. my weekend plan is a trip to WM and since we are out of everything it will cost a fortune.

  8. Those cups are adorable. Hey hand washing is a good way to soften your cuticles. I never use the automatic dishwasher.
I use to be a magazine junkie but have whittled it down to just one that comes out just 6 times a year. Withdrawal was tough but I am fine now.

  10. No big plans here!

The mugs are so perfect for spring and summer. I can easily see how they hopped into your hands. Sorry that the patch didn't work. At least, you know the next steps to take.

    A happy weekend to you!

  11. Lucky you got those magazine at the resell. I looked the other day at a quilting magazine at Hobby Lobby and it was $9.95! Yes I could have used my 40% off coupon, but that is still pricey.

As for this weekend, KBIA Radio out of Columbia Mo is interviewing the Blacksmith at 10:00 here in the shop on Saturday. He will be one of 3 blacksmith demonstrating in Jefferson City April 25th, in the afternoon at Lohman's Landing. Come on down!

  12. Bummer on the roof leak. That is so discouraging.

I have a similar weakness for magazines, books...and mugs too! Crazy! But who wouldn't want to sip coffee/tea out of those darling bee mugs this spring/summer?!

  13. sorry about the continued leakage. cute stormy (spoiled girl!) and adorable mugs. they really are cute.

  14. Those mugs are adorable! They just scream SPRING! The blue & yellow combination is one of my favorites. Love your sweet cat. Our kids just got a third cat...a stray that was starved for love (and food!) and they already have two other cats, two dogs and inherited a cockatiel and a turtle and mouse when they became foster parents to their nephew recently. It's a menagerie over there! :-) Hate you are having to deal with that leak in the new house. Hope it won't be too expensive to fix!

  27. Oh my dear friend I am so happy to be back reading blog posts again. After 6 weeks of no blogging I have been missing my favorite blog friends. I love the tea cups. I think I told you that I have several that I inherited from my mother. She loved collecting them. Someday, I will take a photo of them all. They are priceless to me.
Stormy is just so adorable and I loved that sweet picture. It made me miss my Willie.
Have a wonderful night out with your hubby!
Sending love and hugs your way!

  32. I love the raised bee wings on those mugs. Planting a little something in them would mean you don't need to hand wash... Adorable kitty! Hope you had a great steak dinner ;-)

  38. Hi Cheryl!

What great finds! Those mugs are absolutely adorable, very Springy! I love nothing better than to sit down with my favorite cup of tea and a good magazine . . . it just makes my heart happy! I really love Taste of Home, although I don;'t cook as often as I used to, I still love reading cookbooks, and recipes. Your sweet cat is so cute, I sure wish I could curl up and go to sleep like that!

Good luck with The Project, nothing worse than water damage and mold. I know this from experience!

I hope you had a wonderful date night with your sweetheart!
