Friday Randoms

The Redbud trees are gorgeous this year.

It rained yesterday and the only thing I got done was 3 loads of laundry until time for dinner.  In other words, I was lazy.  Very lazy.   Don't you think that we all just need to be lazy every now and then?  I do.

I love snapping Goldfinches because they sit fairly still!

The new Skechers that I mentioned buying in this post are the most comfortable shoes I've had in recent years.  I love them!  I've done a lot of walking in them the past few days when shopping and for a walk at the lake.

American Coots

One reason I love blogging is that I learn something new nearly every day!  The latest I've learned is...that not everything that looks like a duck and floats on the water is a duck.  I found out from blogging friends Theresa and Ruth that the name of the waterbird in my last post was called an American Coot.  I had to look it up and found out that the Coot is a common sight in nearly any open water across the continent, and it is a closer relative of the Sandhill Crane than it is a Mallard or Teal.  It doesn't have webbed feet, either.  I also learned that the oldest known Coot lived to be at least 22 years old.

Just because I love to snap these big birds, too.
Forecasters are predicting a massive tornado outbreak this weekend for several states including mine, MO.  This means I won't be getting much sleep and I'm very glad that we have a basement, if the siren sounds.  I hope those of you who live in the red zone for this weekend have a shelter if needed, too!  Stay safe!

On one of those busy days in which I'm glad I wore the Skechers, I went shopping for garden plants, flowers for the pots, and some new capris.  I stopped by the flea market and spotted the small table above.  It says on the tag that it is cherry and it appears to be in good shape other than needing painting.  I could use an extra little table and the price is right.  At the time, I didn't want to put it in my car because I thought I'd need the room for garden plants and flowers, but I think I'll go back and hope it's still there.

Happy Friday to you!

Until next time...
xoxo Cheryl

  1. What a nice post. I think that we need to be a bit "lazy" now and then just to rest our minds.
I love a good comfy pair of shoes too. It is such a blessing.
I hope your table is still there, if not don't worry and hope that the person who bought it will love it as much as you.
    Blessings dear. Catherine xo

  2. Stay safe when the storms hit. Thank you for the information about the American Coot's. I saw some too when I was out at the lake here. Love that table.

  3. Hi Cheryl I hope the storm is not too severe for you, at least you have somewhere to go for safety. Yes I agree with you when you say you learn so much from other bloggers. Before blogging, I did not know any birds from the USA and now I can recogise a lot of them. Love the Redbud flower, the Goldfinch and the A Coots. Go on and buy the table, it looks great and f you need it, why not? Have a great weekend.

  5. I see that you are thrilled with the little goldfinches ( as am I ) at this time of year :)

Haven't checked the weather except to see that we may have a storm or two ( western PA ) but my oldest son lives in St Louis now and over the past year I have often texted " are you OKAY???" because the weather there seems pretty extreme. A tornado touchdown a month or so ago was right in his area!

  12. Pretty blooms and goldfinch! I've never seen a Coot before so I don't know if they are common in our area. I hope you are safe from the possible tornado this weekend. That would be scary to be under a watch like that all the time. It's still been very cold here (snow last night!). I hope the table is still there. With a fresh coat of paint it will be perfect. Have a safe weekend!

  14. i like your line-up of coots. so cute! :) texas is in the start of that red weather zone. no basement. and in this gazebo house, no interior room - only one storage closet at the front of the house w/o windows. not my favorite part of the season, but i think mo and ok and other states get hit harder than tx, most times...

and i think lazy days are a treat we all need!

  16. We have to wait at least another week before planting anything. Your spring is a bit sooner. We had frost early in the week and it is looking like all next week will be cold.
I am hoping those storms don't move up north. They say they are going to be bad. Stay Safe!!

  20. I think by this stage of life we've earned the right to be lazy and the right to wear comfortable shoes. Glad to hear you found both :).
Hmm, interesting about those coots. New to me too. You're right we do learn so many interesting little tidbits in blogland.
Keeping my fingers crossed that there will be no tornadoes and also that the table is still there when you return.

  21. Guess I will just have to check out those shoes. Always looking for comfort.
Interesting. I had no idea coots and sandhills were kin. Sure wouldn't know by looking.

  22. Neat little table... Hope you can get it!!!!

Most of the rain this week has missed us. We have gotten a little but not much... We are in for some rough stuff (like you) next Mon/Tues I think...GADS----scary!!!! Hope we are ALL safe.

Love your coots... I don't know my ducks either --but many bloggers do...

Have a great weekend and stay SAFE.
    Hugs,

  25. I just saw another post on facebook (you know...the National News Headquarters...HA HA ) that we are in the path for some destructive weather tomorrow. Just in time for my dh's BD fish fry...uh huh. Yeah..I'm so not a happy camper. But at least I will know where everyone is when the weather hits.

  26. I'm dreading the storms too. I certainly hope they are wrong, but usually when they start forcasting it this early with this big of an area, they aren't wrong. Stay safe!!!

  27. Beautiful photography. Love the plane, the blossoms...we have been hearing about those dastardly storms. Praying that they just fizzle.

  28. Oh Cheryl, ever since I heard about the potential storms I've been worried about all of you, Texas and up. I hope you are safe. Love my skechers too!

  29. I just discovered your blog and I really enjoy it. My husband is the birdwatcher of the family, so I'll share this information on coots with him. Thanks!

  30. I think I need a lazy day. However, it won't be soon. I have a daughter and her family coming for probably a month or more. Her family is moving to Australia in July. She like you lives in Missouri. Every time there is a tornado watch for there; I get nervous. I loved all the pictures and the the thoughts on the birds. I must be more aware of the birds that are around her and get some pictures too.
    Blessings and hugs!
