Monday's Musings

Happy Monday!   I have sunflowers now blooming in my garden.  In just a few days, maybe 10, since I first saw the beginnings of a bloom, a couple of sunflowers have opened up.  This is a tall boy, I really had to stretch to get this shot!

This is what they looked like just a few days ago.  I have more that will bloom before long.  Don't you think, like I do, that sunflowers are just the happiest looking flower?

Does anyone know what this little yellow flower is?  It comes up every year and it is one we brought from my inlaw's yard several years ago.  This is the first year it has bloomed since it was planted.  We had to cut some trees that died during last year's drought and I think they needed the sunlight which they now get.  I had this flower in my yard when we lived in the country.  I think my MIL got a start of this flower from us.  She called it "bread and butter".

We still have the kittens.  This little one above hurt his leg over a week ago and we couldn't put him through the trauma of moving to a strange home with a bum leg.  So when he's healed up, we will then take them to their new home.  Here he is getting some TLC from his mom.

I took my Nikon Coolpix back to the store last week.  I took lots of pics with it, but I didn't get the closeups I was looking for.  I rarely ever return anything, but they had said I could try it out and return it if it didn't work out.  I like Canon, that is what my larger camera is, so I'm going in that direction next.  I found one that has a lot of good reviews and it is pocket-sized, which is what I want.  Hopefully, I'll find one without having to order it.

Thank you to everyone who commented on my last post.  It was so interesting to find out if you were an extrovert or introvert.  Or, as Patti said, a mixtravert!  :)  I do think there is a bit of both in most of us.  I am an introvert, but I can socialize and talk to almost anyone when I need/want to.  I just don't feel the need to be around people all that often.  I do like my alone time and there is so much I'm interested in, so much to do, that I never get bored.  That said, I will say I do love spending time with my hubby and my 2 children.  But, even then, I need my quiet, alone time just as they need theirs.  I just had a thought...do you think bloggers are mostly introverts?  You know, we can interact with others but don't have to leave our homes to do so!

Until next time...

  3. I keep swearing I will plant lots of sunflowers every winter when I have to buy sunflower seeds for the birds. Wow are they getting expensive. Maybe next year.
I think a lot of us bloggers have introvert tendencies but perhaps there is also the lazy extrovert tendencies like I have. A way to socialize with out getting dressed up.

  4. I see the wildflower form of the little yellow flower, but have no idea what it is. The Nikon didn't give you nice close- ups? Hmmm...that's what mine is best at. My Canon gives the better landscapes and zooms. Whatever you're doing, it all looks great.

your kittens are going to take turns 'getting hurt' just so they can all stay at your place. good luck with the camera!

  6. Sorry to hear the camera did not live up to your expectations. Let us know when you get another one. Sunflowers are certainly happy flowers, don't know the other yellow flower, never seen that one.

  7. Sunflowers definitely have happy faces! They make me smile.. :) I am happy you are thinking of a Canon point and squirt! Give the PowerShot ELPH a google and a chance.. :) Cheryl you know those kittens aren't going anywhere.. :) I think bloggers are maybe introverted. I am having a hard time just keepin' on blogging. I think my blogging days are over. I just can't seem to find something I haven't already blogged about, snapped a picture of or talked about. It is like I have lost my funny and my words. We have also been pretty busy with some big decisions. I have not picked up my camera with any amount of enthusiasm in months.. :(

Good luck on your camera hunt Cheryl! Waiting for what looks like rain!

  8. The ELPH 330 Cheryl, I forgot to add the model. There are only about a bazillion of them. It is enough to befuddle you indefinitely!

  9. Sunflowers are happy! It says so right next to their name in the encylopedia!

I have wondered the same thing about us bloggers...I can be happy with just seeing my kids and my hubby...and family...doesn't hurt that my BFF became my sister-in-law.

Now my husband likes to be around more people than I do...and the thing of it is...I do like his best buddies...they are like brothers to me. So that helps...they can visit and I can go on and do my own thing.

  10. I'm laughing... yes, I think bloggers may mostly be introverts. ;)

I'm proud you took that camera back if you weren't delighted with it, Cheryl. I hardly ever take anything back, and there are times I should.

I want to know what that plant is too. It looks like it might be related to a Snap Dragon??? love. love. love the sunflowers!!! =D

  12. Your little yellow flower is a Linaria, sometimes called toadflax. (The flower does look a little bit like a snap dragon, but the leaves are not the same at all.)
Your sunflower is gorgeous!! I think all the asteraceae family of flowers (sunflowers, daisies, zinnias, etc) can put a smile to someones face faster than anything.

  13. I love sunflowers and your photo makes me think the flower is quite large.

I'm an introvert too. I suspect many bloggers may be as it's often easier for introverts to comment in writing with a computer screen as a shield. I can get along in group settings too but it's not my first choice.

  14. One of my best friends is a HUGE extrovert... She HAS to be around people 24/7--the more, the better.. She hates blogging --and wonders why I love it so much... She wants to see and talk to people. I love this way of communicating... I truly think that most bloggers have more introvert qualities than they do extrovert ones.

Hope you can find a Canon that you like... We are happy with ours--but ours are not small. I recently 'found' (on the hiking trail) a Nikon Coolpix --which I will try out sometime...

I love sunflowers too---as you know!!!! Wish we had some here in the yard... I don't know what your other little yellow flower is --but it's pretty.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  15. I can identify with you. I truly love people but get anxiety , I am an introvert and blogging gives me a bit of a social life and I am caring . I just do best in my own little world lol

  18. Love sunflowers. They definitely always make me smile. I love my alone time and am probably considered an introvert, although I always talk to people when I am out and about. xo Laura

  19. That sunflower shot is the star of the show here today, it is spectacular. I drive all over looking for them because they are such beautiful subjects to photograph. Sorry about the camera, but it is good you can return it. Check out QVC, they had a lovely Canon on sale, 12X zoom and it was $1.99 I think on sale from much higher. You can go online, they have a great website, just type in Canon cameras, their prices are very low because they buy so much, and they are always great about returns. I have been buying from them for over 25 years.

  20. Oh my gosh, that sunflower is humongous, and beautiful!! I have no inkling what the other yellow bloomer is, but it's pretty. Kinda on the side of a snapdragon. Kinda, sorta.

I'm definitely and introvert. And I don't mind at all. But I can talk/mingle with other people, it's just I don't need that social behavior to be happy.

  21. Your sunflowers are spectacular open or closed and that Zinnia is really really pretty.
I cannot get enough of those cats. They are so cute!!!

  22. Several years ago, we had a large stand of sunflowers and I took so many photos of them that I have a backlog if ever needed. I agree they are the most cheerful flowers, Cheryl.

Also, it was interesting to read your comments about the Nikon Coolpix you recently bought and decided it was not the one for you. I too had second thoughts about the Samsung "smart camera" I bought and raved about in a post. It did great on closeups, but seemed to have problems focusing when action was involved. So it's being sold on ebay and I am now in the market for a replacement and also looking at Canon since that's the brand I am most familiar with...curious as to which model you are checking out as I was considering the PowerShot SX60.

  23. All sunflowers are magnificent! Such a glow and when you look at them ....they make you smile and be happy! The photo of the zinnia is fabulous. I am a zinnia lover. I have never seen one like that. did you order a package or were you lucky enough to have one just grow in your garden?

I know I am an introvert and I don't even have a blog.!!!!!!!

  25. I agree Cheryl, sunflowers are definitely the happiest flowers- I smile when they bloom in our yard:)

note, I read camera reviews and forums at dpreview(.)com for a year before deciding on a Panasonic fz-150 in 2010. The forums have great info and photos from different cameras.
I love size, super-zoom and the sharpness of my camera.

  26. Cheryl, your sunflowers are so gorgeous! In fact all the photos are awesome. Cute little kittens

  27. I am definitely an introvert, Cheryl. I do quite well occupying myself...lol I am alone all day with my baby granddaughter as content as can be. I do like to socialize now and then, but usually someone else will have to initiate it and then I join in. My husband and children are the same, so it works out well.

I think your flower photos are amazing, so whatever camera you are using it is doing a beautiful job!

  28. I think we are a like in many ways. I know that I like my quiet time too. I enjoy doing things with my hubby and children but I can live without being around a lot of people. I do love going to church and serving others but I am a homebody when I can be.
I loved your flower pictures. I would love to see your flower garden. The kitten with it's mother is so sweet; it would be hard to give the a way
    Blessings!

  29. I love sunflowers too. They are so bright and provide a nice snack for birds and squirrels if the raccoons don't get to them first. :) The other flower is Linaria vulgaris which grows all over the roadsides here too. It is commonly called Butter-and-eggs. Pam
