Happy Monday

"Just living is not enough...one must have sunshine, freedom,
and a little flower."   ~ Hans Christian Andersen

Happy Monday to you!  I wish I could tell you that I took lots of photos with my new camera over the weekend.  Photos of everything from A to Z-innia.  But the truth is that I didn't get very far from my house and really didn't take many photos at all.  My flower mosaic is from my shooting marathon the other day.

Our son came in for the weekend and we had a nice, relaxing time visiting.  We listened to music while talking and got into a discussion about country music.  Son and I both said we don't particularly like the new country music.  Seems to me they sound more pop or rock than country these days.  What say you?  Do you like country music?  I like music of all kinds, except rap and hard rock.  The oldies are actually what I most enjoy.

I may be blogging less in the coming days or weeks.  There are a lot of things I've neglected this summer that needs my attention.  One thing I've neglected, besides my house, is reading.  As in books.  I have about 4 books started but not finished.  Also, I was thrilled to be sent a book to review!!  This author saw my blog posts on the Laura Ingalls Wilder homes and thought I'd like to read her new book.  I'll tell you all about the author and book when I've had a chance to read it!  So stay tuned....

Before I close, I'd like to ask for prayers and good thoughts for my dear aunt.  She is 87 years young, but she has been living with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) for a few years now.  She is in the hospital undergoing tests as she has been feeling poorly and her calcium levels were extremely high.  She is my only close living relative, outside my hubby and children, and I think the world of her.  I pray that nothing too serious will be found and that she can still have many good years.  She has been quite active for her 87 years, even though she has had a lot of health problems.

Until next time...

  6. Your mosaic is beautiful, Cheryl,I agree with you wholeheartedly about the new country music, and that my favorite other than Christian is the oldies.
I totally understand about taking some time off to catch up, I hope you have greater success than I did, while I was away from blogging. ~smile~ Due to the extremely wet weather we have had to constantly battle water damage, and replanting.

I will be praying for your aunt, during this difficult time.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  9. It is a privilege to lift your aunt in prayer to The Lord.

Selfish me does not want to see less of you! Selfish me wants you to take four of those gorgeous zinnia pics and make notecards out if them for tomorrow's party!

Hadn't thought about it, but it is true that I like the oldies in Country Music more than most of the new songs.

  11. I guess I like the new as well as the old. The only music I can't embrace is rap and progressive jazz. Every thing else is mood driven.
I will keep you and your aunt in my prayers and hope that all her remaining years are good ones.

  13. I am taking a bit of a break, too, Cheryl, and for many of the same reasons. I'm praying for your aunt, it's hard to be ill.... and I hope for her full recovery. The flowers are beautiful! I'm an old time country music lover.

  14. Funny thing is, I listen to the country music station more than others but I don't buy the music.
I just heard the same song for the one millionth time and turned it off.

I hope you aunt recovers fully.

  15. Prayers for your sweet aunt, Cheryl... I know you have talked about her before, in blog posts...

Don't apologize for not blogging as much or for not taking more photos... Family is so important --and I know how much you enjoyed being with your son... I miss mine SO much...

I agree that the new country music sounds much more pop and rock these days...SO--I don't like it as much either...

Relax and read some books this week.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  16. I have not heard of this ailment, but I will Google it and pray for her, I am so sorry. I hope you have a great visit with your son. Once I started blogging, I never was able to pick up another book. And I used to read one a day! Your collage is beautiful!

I'm more than happy to pray for your dear Aunt. I hope she gets to feeling better soon.
Your photos are amazing, but they always are!
No, I don't like country music. There are some of the old songs I like.

  21. I am amazed at how we have similar things in our lives.
I love country music but I agree the new songs are more pop. I have liked Faith Hill but lately her music has the screaming in it. She has such a lovely voice with a deep range. I loved the Christmas album she did a few years ago. I too favor oldies. I do like hymns a lot..
I am like you I am trying to read more than one book at a time and I am so far behind. I should maybe slow down on some things. I actually have one self help book to review and a children's book in the next three weeks and I have barely started the Self-help one.
I have an 99 year old Aunt that I treasure. She has her 100th birthday in Sept. She isn't doing great right now either.
I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
    Blessings!

  24. Hi Cheryl!

I love Zinnias, no matter when the picture was taken.... ;0) They are so pretty. This time of year, when the weather cools down a little...and I mean very little, the flowers seem to just perk up!

I am a music lover too - and I agree, country music is not the same as I remember! I love old country music and listen to Willies Road House on Sirius radio (I get it on my TV). Maybe I'm a stick-in-the-mud, but I just love old country and oldies! I have lots of cd's, so when we get in the car, I don't have to listen to new country. Yesterday, we were at a furniture store and they had oldies playing -- I would have bought everything in the store, just because of the music - what a pushover I am!

Have a nice break, and I can't wait to hear about the book. I went to the library the other day and loaded up too - I love to read!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  25. Cheryl, taking time for ourselves is important and hope you have the time to relax and enjoy reading, which is one of my passions as well (besides photography). I am with you in liking old time rock and roll, not so much country music. Really enjoy big band and jazz and 40s and 50s tunes as well. Keeping your aunt in our thoughts too and perhaps you will have more time to share with her on your blog break.
BTW, my new camera is much larger than my previous point & shoot and is a Nikon Coolpix P510.

  26. Cheryl, I am hoping your aunt is feeling and doing much better by the time I am catching up to your post. I completely understand the need to tend things and sometimes have to cut back on the blogging. Oh, for more time to do all the things we want and need to do!! Sending prayers for your aunt and happy wishes for your reading, etc. blessings ~ tanna

  27. I'm just the opposite, I've been neglecting my blog. Just haven't been feeling up to it. My prayers are with your Aunt. Good luck catching up Cheryl! Love all your pictures from the previous post. Awesome!

  28. Keeping your Aunt in my thoughts and prayers. I'm with you on the country music, I do like country music but not so much the new stuff, and I could leave rap and hard rock alone. Enjoy your books, I've not been blogging as much as I too have quite a few books on my reading list. I'm slowly getting them read :)
