Snow in May!

See the photo above?  Not exactly the scenery we hoped to see on our little weekend trip to Branson on Friday.  This was a first for me....snow in May!  If we hadn't already made our reservations, I daresay we might have cancelled.  Not only did we see snow, we saw quite a bit of light rainAnd very chilly temperatures.

We decided to go to Silver Dollar City Saturday morning.  It was the last weekend for the World Fest.  We walked around the park a while and ate lunch, watched a group from Ecuador play their instruments, which was very good, and also stopped in at the old cabin to listen to the Homestead Pickers.  However, around 1:30 we decided the rain and cold was too much for us, so we left and headed downtown to look around.  We also stopped in at the Hard Luck Diner for one of their old fashioned sodas and listened to the singing waiters/waitresses.

We were back in our hotel pretty early.  And let me tell you, their pillow top mattresses were soooo soft that I got really comfy very quickly!  I started reading a new cookbook I bought that looked interesting at Mulberry Mill....doesn't everyone love to read cookbooks?....and hubby tuned in to a basketball game.  We both were soon sound asleep and when we woke up, it was too late to go out to dinner!  Luckily I had packed a few snacks to tide us over.

Sunday, we had breakfast and headed home.  We stopped at an antique/flea market along the way.  I didn't see anything that I couldn't live without, so we were soon on the road again.  I'd like to say we had a great time, but with the weather so crummy, it would be a stretch to call it "great".  I hardly ever took my camera out of the bag.  Hope your weekend was better than mine!

Until next time...

  1. Sorry to hear the weather ruined your weekend. It's been that kind of spring. At least you got to do a few things. I LOVE Branson. We love going to all the shows there.

  2. Weird I tell you. N/W Arkansas, close to Branson had snow also.
Glad you were able to salvage a pretty good time out of the crummy weather. I will be glad when I can quit tucking my plants into bed each night with covers.

  3. Weather hasn't been well around here either....it has been warmer than usual for this time of year and I'm afraid it is going to be a long HOT summer. Love the photos that you were able to capture. I haven't been to Branson....it's on my bucket list.

  7. That's so disappointing to have snow, rain and cold weather while on a weekend away. Such strange weather patterns this spring/year! You will have to make up for it on another little weekend away when the weather improves for good! Hugs for a good week. Pam

  8. What I find fascinating about the recent snow (and I took a photo too) is the contrast between the green and white. Normally when we have snow, there's little green around.

  9. Good Morning Cheryl! Well at least it was a getaway and the pillow top mattress sounds all cozy considering the weather!

  12. Snow in May ... very strange.
We've had cold temps and lots of rain here.
What a shame that your plans were ruined by the weather. Although curling up in that cozy bed with a good cookbook sounds pretty good too. I am a fellow cookbook lover.

  14. O so sorry your trip was ruined by weather. Maybe you can go again later in the summer.
Mr. Sweet wants to go to Branson sooo bad. He is much more a country-music-lover than I....I still love Little Richard....hahhaaa...

  15. Awww, Bummer.....sorry that the weather was not treating you all nicely. Sam and I had such a wonderful vacation to Branson last year, that it is making it difficult for us to decide what to do this year. Branson has sooo much to offer. glad you were able to enjoy that pillow top mattress...
