A Few Photos and Thoughts for Friday

I've lost my blog list!  It has disappeared from my side bar.  Anyone else have this happen?

We started the week with a trip down I-70 to Kleinschmidt's for some boots and work clothes for BG.  His company gives them a clothing allowance and he has to wear flame retardant clothes, so we usually buy them there as well as his lineman boots.  While he was looking for what he needed, I was in the next aisle looking at cowboy boots.  I've never worn them, but after looking at the many, many beautiful boots I felt like I could start.  We all know Pioneer Woman loves her cowboy (or is it cowgirl?) boots.  Have you ever worn them?

The little chipmunk above lives in Branson.  The weather here has cooled down a bit, it was 75 today and that is much better than the humid high 90's we've been having.  Anyway, my son and I were just talking and both of us were wishing we were back in Branson and are talking about maybe a long October weekend there.  There is just something about the place, in spite of all the tourists, that my family loves.

Soon we bird watchers will be busy keeping the feeders filled up.  I kind of slack up during the summer months thinking the birds need to be catching some of the gazillion bugs out there.

I don't want to dwell on unpleasant topics too much, but what is going on in our world today?  It seems like it's one tragedy after another.  So many people hurting and so much of it is just so senseless.  Will it ever get better?  I pray it will.

My Stormy girl loves to nap near me if I'm sitting down.  Or occasionally on my lap.  But when the temperature was so hot outside, it was too hot for kitties on my lap even with the a/c running non-stop.  See the flipflops?  They are Skechers and they are sooo comfortable.  I've hardly worn anything else all summer.  In fact, I'm still wearing them.

This has been a busy week.  Today saw me heading to the Big Town where I took my car for an oil change and tire rotation.  That was a 2 hour wait but their waiting area has all kinds of drinks, popcorn and ice cream plus free wifi to help make the waiting time easier.

I picked up my daughter's payroll while I was in the city.  Then I ran by the Tuesday Morning store and got a new bath mat we needed.  I also needed to use my Kohl's Cash coupon so I stopped by there and with the sales I ended up with 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels and a necklace for only 9 dollars.  Pretty good deal, I thought!

One place I didn't visit was the Upscale/Resale shop.  I've decided that I'd better not buy more books or magazines for awhile as I've got stacks now that I haven't read.

The last book I read was Saving CeeCee Honeycutt, a debut novel by Beth Hoffman.  It was different than what I usually read, but I really liked it and it was one that I didn't want to see end.  Poor CeeCee spent the first 12 years of her life with her mentally challenged mother, her father couldn't cope so he was away all the time.  CeeCee's mother died and her great-aunt Tootie swooped in to take her home with her to Savannah, Ga.  The cook at Tootie's house played a big role in CeeCee's life as well as various other women.  It was a very good read and I loved the setting in Savannah.   This photo has nothing to do with the book...I was too lazy to look up the book and take a photo of it.

Do you have big plans for the weekend?  We'll most likely be working at The Project.  (For new readers, The Project is the house we bought and are fixing up to rent out.  BG is rewiring it.)  Hope you have a nice Friday and wonderful weekend...I'm hoping I'll get my blog list back soon!

  1. Yes, my blog list sidebar used to disappear on a regular basis. But it would always come back. Never was gone for more then a day at a time. Your cardinal shot with the sun on him is absolutely gorgeous! I adore sweet little chipmunks, and used to feed them, but your cardinal even surpasses that! The world is getting more and more evil.

  2. I love that sun sky through the window at the end. wow. you have been busy.. so you are still working on the project. I love Stormy with your sketchers and I love my sketchers. so comfy. I wore cowboy boots for about a year, it is easier to drive an 18 wheeler with boots on.. but as for walking they were not that comfy. I love the way they look though

  3. Ouch on losing your blog list. I haven't yet and hope not to. Hope you find a way to regain it. Yes I use to wear boots and found them very comfortable. When I left my cows and horse in Florida, I left my boots also. Kind of miss them. Sigh.

  5. Hi!

Welcome back! I haven't been on my blog too much lately, but I plan on being more present in the future...;0)

Sounds like you have had a busy summer, the heat is just so smothering, I don't know how you guys who live in humid climates deal with it! We have only been in the mid 70's for the last couple of weeks and I am loving it.

I don't wear boots. I tried once . . . once was enough. My husband on the other hand, always wears boots, not really cowboy boots, but, Whites, which are a lace-up boot that all the cowboys wear here in Idaho, (he is a cowboy). I have to have toe-freedom!

Branson sounds wonderful, I'll bet it is so pretty this time of year, please post pictures!

I love to read, and have been reading most of the summer - not like me, I usually wait to do most of my reading in the fall. I will have to look at my library for, CeeCee Honeycutt it sounds like a good read.

I agree, the world is really in so much turmoil right now, and I don't think it will get better with the elections coming up. It's scary...prayer is really our best defense.

I don't have many plans for the week-end. I will be watching my church's General Conference for some spiritual enlightenment, also good defense for me.

Have a fun week-end sweet friend!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  8. Hi Cheryl,
It's so nice to see hear from you. You have been missed.
This missing blog list issue is a mystery. I'm feeling a bit lost without mine and hoping it returns soon.
Now that is a lot of cowboy boots to choose from. I think some people wear them really well. I, however, would feel totally out of place wearing them.
    Your sunflower is a beauty.
We woke up to cool temps and low humidity today. Hooray! Happy October to you.

  9. No cowboy boots for me, although I think they look cute with some outfits/styles. Those Skecher flip-flops, however, I'd buy in a heartbeat!

Looking forward to seeing your beautiful bird photography as your feathered friends return to your feeders. Love your shot of the cardinal!

Projects, house-y stuff...on and on it goes! Next week my husband is off and the big project is taking out the cook top that is here, and replacing it with the double oven range that we brought with us from the old house. Of course, that involves cutting into the countertop (because we're not ready for a full kitchen remodel) and removing the lower cabinet. Oh, and finding a place to put all the stuff that is IN that cabinet now!

  10. Gorgeous flowers! I don't think I've ever seen so many cowboy/cowgirl boots in my life. There sure are some snazzy ones!

I haven't tried sketchers flip flops, just Reef and Crocs... I'll have to give them a try, next year.
It's cooling off here, and soon we'll be bundled up and wearing warm socks.

Haven't had any trouble with my blog.....knock on wood. Hope you get it all sorted out.

    Have a great day!
    ~K.

our world today is wicked more than ever. guess we're gonna have to get tuff and not put up with the p c stuff anymore, it's being used against us and now time to take control I guess. I pray everynight for some type of change for the better.

  13. When we moved west my husband and I visited a few western stores to try on cowboy boots but they were all so very expensive and so tight on our legs and feet that we gave up looking for a pair. I had to delete my blog list a long time ago because one of the blogs on it was infected with a virus and people visiting me were getting warnings about it. As soon aas I deleted the list off my sidebar the warnings went away. I never reinstalled it to make sure that does not happen again. Love all your flower photos--zinnias are so bright and colorful!

  14. Well hello, Cheryl...it's been a while! Happy Fall! Did you stop posting for a while? I have missed seeing your blog and just happened to see a comment you made on Ruth's blog. I have never lost my side bar but I know others who have had this happen. You have taken some lovely photos!

  15. Hi Cheryl. My blog roll never came back, even though Google said they were working on restoring them. So I am creating a new one, but it is tough going. I'm sure I will miss people. You are there, and I hope to hear more from you. xo Laura
