Friday Randoms

The birds are keeping me busy filling feeders this cold, cold winter.  I have a dozen or more cardinals around jockeying for a space at the feeder I fill with sunflower seeds.  The woodpeckers are enjoying their feeders and the goldfinches and other little birds feast on the finch seed.

Yesterday would have been Elvis Presley's 80th birthday.  It was a huge shock when I heard the news of his passing in August of 1977.  My mother had just died a month before.  I had a wee little huge crush on him back in the day and loved playing his music.  My mother didn't share my enthusiasm for his music, but I can remember watching him in concert on TV with her one night and noticed she was tapping her feet, too.  He had so many great songs that I would be hard pressed to name a favorite, but Can't Help Falling in Love and Suspicious Minds are two at the top of the list.  Do you have a favorite Elvis song?

I've been watching a few movies lately on the new TV.  I've seen them before, but it had been awhile...The Fugitive and Air Force One with Harrison Ford were the latest I watched.  Is it just me, or is the music on some shows extremely loud?  Both BG and I complained that we couldn't really hear what the actors were saying half the time.

Do you think the weather affects your pets behavior even if they are inside?  The kitties were all on a tear yesterday while it was so windy outside.  They usually are better behaved, but I could have cheerfully given them all away yesterday.

BG and I have a new favorite place to eat and that's where we'll be headed in a few minutes.  We both always seem to order the same thing each time and why not?  The food is delicious.  So, dinner is calling and I will bid you adieu and wish you a very pleasant evening.  Have a good weekend, too!

Even tho this post is late I'm linking with Tanya's Willy Nilly Friday 5

Happy Friday to you!

  2. Happy Friday to you, too, Cheryl. I got somewhat caught up in the Elvis movies they showed all day on TCM. I didn't watch any all the way through, just bits and pieces, but I did see most of his 1970 Las Vegas concert. Oh, did he ever look wonderful! I even found some cool stuff on the web like a picture of Elvis in junior high school. My biggest crush was for Ricky Nelson, whose tragic death in 1985 was a real blow.

  3. wonderful picture of the Red Headed Woodpecker.... These birds fascinate me. Our Bella {shih tzu) is so rotten...she likes her space outdoors, but during the Winter months, she is always snuggled up beside us.
    Enjoy your meal out....

  4. My kitties have been acting up too. Maybe you're on to something. It could be the temps outside??? Loved Elvis's Blue Christmas. Take care.

  5. The music drowns out the dialogue in many shows and movies. It's irritating, isn't it? I love Blue Christmas too and remember watching all of his movies in the theater. Enjoy your weekend! Hugs!

  6. Cheryl - your photo of the woodpecker is gorgeous! I know the outside weather definitely affects Bella my dog. She does not like the cold for sure.

  8. Yum! So what is this place, is it a chain? WOW, a red headed! And he looks all fluffed up and cold. He is a rare sight and I have never even seen a real one. I do think the moon cycles affect animals, so maybe the wind does too. It spooks our cats.

  9. Looks like good eats!
I like Love Me Tender and My Way . . . I never did get into the Elvis hype though.
    Have a great weekend!

  11. Yes I agree, the music drowns out the dialogue in many movies and it is! Love the first shots and your cat. another blogger had an Elvis video music clip on today which I listened to. Have a wonderful weekend.

  12. I've been wondering if the music had gotten louder or my hearing is getting bad!! LOL! I think there is at least one Elvis song that everyone likes whether you were a big fan or not. He was an extremely gifted artist.

I'm HUNGRY now!! LOL! blessings ~ tanna
ps I do think the animals respond to the weather inside or out.

  13. we eat at the same 3 places over and over, we love the food and only eat out 3 or 4 times a month so we want what we like best.
the only difference in our dogs that is weather related is we have to go out in the rain with them or they will not GO if you no what i mean.. they huddle by the door. they sleep when inside and when outside run and play. no kitties here
I like both the movies you mentioned and over the years have watched them several times. and yes, the music drowns out the speech. we turn it up to hear what they are saying and when the music starts it hurts our ears.

  14. My hubby and I were on our way home from our honeymoon that Aug. 16, 1977 when we heard the news about Elvis's passing. We were shocked and dumbfounded as we entered a truck stop restaurant to have dinner. One wonders what his life would have been like had he lived longer eh? Would he have been caught up in the fame and fortune even more? And would he have been singing all these years? And life goes on. We usually eat at the same favourite restaurants too. Not very adventurous! Enjoy the weekend!

  16. Nice bird in the first photo (I've never seen before).
I well remember the death of E.Presley. We stayed in the dorm for profession training and my girlfriend was crying - they worshiped him very much ...
I have to this day an age old vinyl, I heed such a treasure, although music is to get on the Internet everywhere today. My favorite song is "In the Ghetto"
Oh yes, I also watch as cat reacts to weather, even if it is in the house.

Thanks for your comment and prayers.

  17. I think we all miss Elvis and what he meant to our world while he was here. If only he had understood not to trust the people around him so much and wouldn't have made some of the bad choices he made! His music will live on forever!

  19. I think I appreciate Elvis more now than I did then. Now it is more about his music--- then it was the man. I saw him when he was just a pimple faced kid singing Heart Break Hotel.
In a familiar restaurant, I always get what I all ready know is good. Not very venturous I guess.

  21. That red headed woodpecker is a beauty; what a photo. I loved Elvis too and I like all of his music. He had such a mellow tone to his voice; just so smooth.
I do think that animals sense the weather and act up sometimes.
It looks like you were off for a great dinner. We like you two often order the same thing and we like to go to the same places.
    Blessings for this one!

  22. I am afraid that I shared your mother's opinion of Elvis, though you might find me tapping my toe as well. I also saw Elvis in concert, for a few minutes anyway, while on my break from the concession stands.

Had never thought about the effect of weather on cats, but I think you're on to something and will pay better attention.

The blogs are so skitzy this morning that I am wondering about the weather right now. Couldn't be this iPad. I'm doing a copy and paste and hoping that it works.

  24. It was a shock for me when Elvis died too. The mushrooms and onions are making me feel very hungry!

  25. I have never seen a Woodpecker that beautiful. Elvis was just a smidgen before my time. I was a Beatles kid but I do like his music.
My cat unlike your little brood has been extra sleepy and quiet since it turned so cold. Go figure. They are cats, we will never figure them out.

  26. Don't think I could pick a favorite of Elvis' songs. My mother didn't like him either. Younger Elvis sure was a handsome thing. That's a sweet kitty you have there. Sometimes patience is challenged, isn't it, especially with more than one.
