The weather was beautiful over the weekend when we went to Kansas City to see our son. He had invited us to go to dinner with him and his new lady. We had a great visit and we liked her a lot! She is a cute, sweet girl and was very easy to talk to. Time will tell where this is all headed! I don't ask any questions. Well, not too many.
Our son drove us around the city on Sunday and we crossed the Kit Bond bridge heading into the downtown area. He took us to the West Bottoms area where there are many antique/flea market shops. We only had time to go into a couple of them, but the first one called Re: had 3 floors of wonderful things to look at.
Of course, I pulled my trusty camera out of my purse and snapped a few shots, but it was very busy and I didn't get as many as I would have liked.
They have a lot of old furniture that is painted and I thought the prices on many items were reasonable and others were quite expensive.
I loved browsing around and will definitely have to go back for a longer visit. If you love old things, painted furniture, and repurposed things, then you would love this shop, too!
My son bought the above framed quote to put in his office. I bought a couple of things to add to my gallery wall and will show it another time when I get it all together. Hopefully soon.
Back across the bridge we went, this time heading to Kansas. Kansas City, KS, that is.
Nebraska Furniture Mart is where we were headed after a stop to eat some bbq at Arthur Bryant's. We liked our food, but I think we were unanimous in declaring Gate's BBQ the winner over Bryant's. Gate's sauce is the best! Did I mention that the Gate's restaurant we ate at last time we were in KC burned down just days after we were there? They have several around the city, but I do hope they will build back in the location we were familiar with. Okay, now let's see what I found at NFM.
I've been looking at TV stands for awhile and couldn't find one I really loved. And I have to love it because once I purchase something, I tend to keep it forever. Except I can't keep my oak entertainment center, which I dearly love, because the new tv won't fit and it's just too high for the tv sitting on the top. Anyway, I think I found the one, pictured above. BG liked it, too.
That was my weekend and a fun time was had. You don't want to hear about the stomach virus that hit in the middle of Sunday night and lasted too long. I did get out yesterday to run to the license bureau to get my license renewed before they expired.
Now that the weather has turned warmer I need to get out clothes that are much lighter. If I can find any. That is what I'll be doing the next day or two. Do you have the same problem I do when the seasons change and wonder what you wore the last time?
Happy Wednesday to you!
xo Cheryl
Cheryl - looks like a fun trip with lots of interesting things to do, I'm more than ready to get those summer clothes out!

What a lovely day with your son and his friend. BBQ sounds scrumptious. That TV stand is gorgeous. I also love antique stores. How lucky you were to get to roam around in this one. Let's hope the warmer weather is here to stay.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your time with your son and his new 'lady'. Love that bring and the piece of furniture you liked.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun weekend with your son and his new lady. ;) I would enjoy that little shop and I LOVE the framed quote he bought! Dallas is getting a Nebraska Furniture Mart... maybe we can find an entertainment center too... I really like the one you have chosen! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteYes to the clothing dilemma. I think I face that issue every year. I think the in-between seasons are the hardest. Today we're supposed to reach 75. I'm definitely not ready to jump into shorts or even capris. Shudder!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great time with your son and his new lady.
I really like your choice in the tv cabinet. Very pretty.
What a fun weekend with your son...hope it works with the new girl in his life. Glad that you liked her!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shop that Re is! LOVE It!!!! I like the TV chest you are looking at, too. I keep things for a long time, too. xo Diana
Cheryl, I just love that you shared such fun shops with us!!
ReplyDeleteI saw so many cute things in your pictures. Love the sign that your son bought..... wise words :)
Great choice for a t.v.cabinet.
So happy for you that you had a visit with your son, and with his new lady friend.
I had to smile when you mentioned that you don't ask too many questions... that's the way I am with our kids too.
Smiles :)

I had to smile as i looked at all the painted furniture. all my life furniture was wood, in the early 60's people started to paint old furniture, my cousin pained and old oak claw foot table and chairs, i painted many things over the wood, then in the late 70 early 80s everyone was stripping off the paint and saying why would any one paint this beautiful wood... now we are back to painting the wood AGAIN... what goes around come back around. I love the stand you found for the TV i am still into oak even though everyone else is painting it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an exciting weekend to me. That piece of furniture for your tv...did you pick it up? I think it's a very handsome piece.
ReplyDeleteYour entertainment stand reminds me of one I saw at the Amish furniture shop near Clark. I still regret not buying it.
ReplyDeleteglad you had a good visit with your son. :)
ReplyDeleteA fun weekend for you all.... I LOVE the piece that your son purchased. How true it is! Hope you were able to get the piece of furniture you wanted. sorry you had the big bug...not fun at all. I too have the same issue with the season change and my clothes. What is it that happens? I don't know...
ReplyDeleteHugs..
Have a great day
Sounds like a fun and productive trip to the city. I love driving through those cable tie bridges.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to get away on a little weekend road trip, especially in the spring after being cooped up all winter. I'm sorry you got the bug while away though. Not fun! The used furniture store looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe bridge is awesome and frightening all at once. I would just LOVE this place and want to buy everything there! Especially the big white table and chair set! I love painted furniture. Did you buy the T.V. stand?? It is classic and has lots of good storage.
ReplyDeleteWishing we had some warmer weather here!!! But, I know ... come summer when the temps hit the triple digits I'll be hoping for the cooler weather we have now.
ReplyDeleteThat bridge is kinda scary yet so artistic in design.
Sounds to me like you had a terrific time...and meeting a new girlfriend of your son's is always priceless.
I really like the entertainment stand! Nice to see your son and his new lady. CH likes Arthur Bryant's.. :)
ReplyDeleteCheryl, Looks as if you had a fine time. Love the antique shop. I am happy about warmer temperatures , but changing out clothing is a task at times. LOL. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely when your child picks out someone you like? That first bridge shot was really interesting and dizzying. .
ReplyDeleteUnlike you I hung on to my old entertainment center and am locked in to a getting no bigger than a 32 inch TV. Good think I have a small house. Think you made the smart move.
Afternoon, oh such a wonderful time, good to be with your Son. Love the shop, I see many wonderful goodies.Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm behind, love all your snow pictures, as well as, the second hand stores! Glad you had a good time!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a good weekend, for the most part. That virus sounds nasty.I look forward to switching to lighter clothes, but for now I will wait a bit.It still will likely get cold here,at least for a few days.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great trip, too bad you had to get sick. I tend to keep pieces of furniture forever too:(
