Play Time

Good afternoon!  It's a rainy day here in my town and it's a good excuse for me to just play today.  I've been playing around in PicMonkey with the new Dodge and Burn editing features which are new and available to Royale members.

First up is Burn which creates shadows and darkness.  I took the photo of the crocus on Sunday when the sun was brightly shining.  I used the Burn feature to darken some of the white areas which the sunlight made.  The original is on the left.  I didn't overdo the shadowing and this was my first attempt, but I think you can tell the difference.

Next, I tried to lighten the dark bags circles under my eyes and also worked on the sagging neck.  The original is on the left.   I think Dodge helped a bit with the eyes.  Wish I'd had this feature before I posted the original photo a few posts ago.  Ha!

I love PicMonkey.  It is my favorite editing site when I need one.  I only realized just a few months ago how good is the sharpen feature.  I do wish they had a good watercolor feature.  For that, I go to PhotoScape and BeFunky.

Most of my editing is limited to resizing, but once in a while it's fun to play!  Do you have a favorite editing site?

Now, it's time to stop playing and think about a few neglected chores that need to get done today.  And it will soon be time to start that pot of vegetable soup I'm having for supper tonight.  I had a chuck roast with potatoes and carrots last night and I like to put the leftover roast into a pot of vegetable soup.  Yum, yum!  It will taste good this chilly evening.

Happy Tuesday to you!
xo Cheryl

  2. PicMonkey is my most favorite, I use it more than my Photo Shop, PiZap and when you told me about Photoscape, it has two features i use. but i am in PM every single day. I knew about the dodge and burn because i learned it in Photo shop.. i use it a lot. I use the burn more than the dodge. i can see a big difference in the flower. have you played with the portrait thingy, that whitens eyes, colors eyes, puts streak in hair, removes wrinkles. i love that one to

  4. Cheryl - I keep thinking that Pic Monkey will evolve to where we can really update our photos! LOL. Your pictures look good. Love your flower photos! Veggie soup sounds good!

  5. I use iPiccy and Luna edit a lot. iPiccy is a lot like Picmonkey. I can see a big difference in your face, but not in the flowers. Your dinner sounds awesome!! I'm off to check out BeFunky now!!

  6. I love to play with my photos too when I have time. You can really improve them on picmonkey with the exposure and adding contrast....and then sharpening. I like your selfie! My reading glasses look a lot like yours and we even look a little alike. (I hope you take that as a compliment! lol) Hugs, Diane

  8. I like what you did! Makes me want to sign up for the free trial. I like the same sites that you do, but I usually stick with Photoscape because it is so handy. You're making me think that I need a new header...an Easter one! I did play at PicMonkey briefly today when I placed a little verse on a grandson's photo.

  9. Cheryl, I love veggie soup the very best . You are having fun with your new feature. I am doing well to get a picture posted ...there's no way I could adjust any of it. I saw a photo someone took thru their screen door , last week, and I thought what a great shot...that's how I would be able to change it. LOL. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  13. The only site I use is PicMonkey-but I don't do much with that even. Just a bit of sharpening and brightening sometimes. I need to look at the Royale features...xo Diana

  14. I love the Crocus, I can really tell the difference between the pictures! You are gorgeous! But, I do love that we can get rid of a few little things we don't like... ;0)

I have always used PhotoScape. I don't do a ton of touching up, I like some of the fun things you can do, and of course, the re-sizing, is a must on a blog! I'm going to check-out PicMonkey, it sounds fun!

  17. I have Photoshop Elements but supplement with Pic Monkey and other free programs. Pic Monkey was once another program that Flickr used for its on-site editing. There was a great protest when Flickr dropped it for something else. Enter Pic Monkey, just as good and just as easy. Happy creating, Cheryl. This is what I love about digital photography.

  22. My favorite editing program is Pixlr and I love, love, love the sharpen tool. I use it on my phone photos often. I always sharpen just a bit, sometimes more. Those are some sweet crocus. It is still raining here and a bit rumbly!

  23. Cheryl, I can so relate to this! I did notice the difference in your photos quite a lot! I also played around with Burn and Dodge too. I never thought about using Dodge on dark circles...great idea! It is also fun to play around with wrinkle remover and weight loss features...I wish real life was that easy...lol! Like you, I also wish they had a better watercolor feature AND like you, I also use Photoscape and BeFunky for that!

  24. Cheryl, you did good with that feature, I read about it, but hadn't tried it yet. This is the one I use 99% of the time too. I made vegetable soup Sunday too. It always tastes so good! Especially on cold rainy days!

    Blessings,

  25. Wow. It does make a difference! I am so lazy... it seems I barely have time to GET a photo and make a post... the editing part just gets skipped over. I know I need to try to make myself learn so it would be faster! Ha! You are inspiring. blessings ~ tanna

  28. Cheryl,
You're making me laugh with your photo editing. I might need to sign up for Royale if it can diminish my bags and sags. :D.
I tend to crop and straighten my photos in Picassa. I've ventured into PicMonkey for making headers. It's fun to play around, but I think I have a lot to learn.
