"I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died
and gave that right to me."
~Lee Greenwood
Note:
I know the flag is supposed to be shown with the stars on the
observer's left, but I can never seem to capture it in the proper
position.
I hope you are having a nice day as we remember those who have given their all for us. Our Sunday started out as a beautiful, sunny day but ended with heavy rain. As of this writing just after midnight, we've had more than 4 inches and it is raining hard again. Let us hope it is a better, drier day tomorrow!
We visited the cemeteries Saturday and they were looking very pretty with many beautiful flowers and flags. The custom in our area is to decorate the graves of our loved ones who've gone before us as well as those who served in the military.
Until next time...
Hope you get sunny skies for Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a beautiful day. I like the traditions Americans have for the Memorial Day weekend. Blessings, Pam
ReplyDeletei have never heard that about the flag, I just take whatever i see that is beautiful and this one surely is..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Cheryl, enjoy the day, Francine.
ReplyDeleteit's a beautiful shot.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, I like the way your flag is flying and we are having stormy weather this morning in our area. They say we are going to have some minor flooding on the Missouri here. We shall see. I am hoping the storms clears off enough for the Memorial Services that is to be held this afternoon for our soldiers. Have a wonderful day. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to be on the Cemetery Committee in our town (when I was young) ---and she'd help decorate the cemetery for Memorial Day--called Decoration Day back then.
ReplyDeleteLet's NEVER forget to honor those men and women who fought and died for our freedom. God Bless America!
Hugs,
Betsy
It's looking iffy here weatherwise for Memorial Day. Wish we would have gotten some of your rain but none in our but of MissouREE. Love your tribute for Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY DECORATION DAY. It is raining here too. My parents used to say the rain was the tears of those that had fallen.

I'm sorry your weekend has been rainy. Your picture is really beautiful!! It doesn't matter which way it is facing, all the elements in the picture add up to gorgeous, and a lump in the throat.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing that beautiful flag.....Hope your Memorial Day is Blessed.
ReplyDeleteMe too - I love that song - that flag - and AMERICA! sandie
ReplyDeleteThe custom of decorating the graves of ALL loved ones is done in this area, too... the heartland. Your picture wss beautiful anyway, Cheryl!
ReplyDeleteThe flag is beautiful, no matter which direction it is flying(except upside down of course). We had gorgeous weather in our little corner of Missouri yesterday and this morning. The rain started coming down in torrents just as daughter and grands and I headed into Target this afternoon. It has let up now. Hopefully the skies are clearing a bit for you too! Have a wonderful rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteThat may be true about the flag, but my post today had the flag in the same position....it was the only way I could photograph it. I do so enjoy following your blog!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful photo of the flag and sky...makes me proud to be an American, too. :))

That song really says it best. I always choke up when I hear it.
ReplyDeleteHope your day was well spent.
Oh that grand old flag. So beautiful blowing in the wind.
ReplyDeleteHope your day was enjoyable and you relaxed a little bit. We decorated our loved one's graves on Saturday. It is something I look forward to doing every year.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week.
Susannah
I hope you had a lovely Memorial day. We weren't able to decorate graves this year; I did have other family that did it.
ReplyDeleteWe too decorate our loved ones and those who have died serving our country.
Blessings!
