It's Friday! And time for my Random 5. I love sunsets. I thought I might catch a nice one the other evening, so I grabbed the cameras and hopped in the truck and took off for the lake. My daughter went along and snapped this first one with my little ELPH. I liked the reflection in the hood of the truck (or pickup). The next photos are from the same evening.
I was just browsing through a few blogs this morning and one of the bloggers had mentioned that she thought dangling earrings weren't usually a good idea for a woman of a certain age. I LOVE to wear dangling earrings and I'm a..cough, cough...certain age. They aren't overly large or flashy, as I do like tasteful jewelry. But they dangle. What do you gals think? Do you like dangling earrings and does age really matter? I say wear what you like!
There are some things about my small town that I don't particularly like, but I do love our lakes. I'm fortunate in that it only takes me a few minutes to drive to them from my house. What is the best feature in or near where you live in your town/city/country?
The news is too depressing lately and I refuse to watch it on tv and hear the same things repeated over and over again or listen to pundits expressing their opinions. I do read just enough to stay informed. Yesterday, I saw that the risk for earthquakes has increased for about half of the US. I was glad to see that my area is in the lower half on the risk scale. Those that live in the boot heel area of MO are in the greatest risk. I'm happy I don't live there. Do you worry about earthquakes where you are?
The summer is almost half over if you consider that school starts for most next month. Where does the time go? We have gotten the date of our vacation this fall nailed down. And I'm 95 percent sure where we're going and I'll tell you when I'm 100 percent. In the meantime, we have a gazillion things we want to get done before then.
I'm linking to Tanya's Willy Nilly Friday 5. Join the party and share 5 random things/thoughts about you or your family or pets or whatever floats your boat!
Happy Friday to you!
xo Cheryl
just beautiful skies! i gave up jewelry years ago. :)
ReplyDeletei love your sunsets views. gorgeous!! i am curious about this dangling earring thing? i would never have thought? i wonder what is the story behind that? i think they are gorgeous. they can add such style to an outfit.
ReplyDeletei totally agree with you there on the news. breaks my heart. too too much sadness going on. we need some uplifting times. i totally understand that life is not always happy. but we need to find times to enjoy the life we are here to love. ( :
The sunset is stunning! And I love the car reflection picture! We live in the Blue Ridge Valley, so our thing is the gorgeous mountains. They circle us all around and are beautiful. We do have some lakes, too. But not as close as yours. As to the earrings...I think no matter what your age is, you need to consider your face shape and what looks good on you. Young and old. But you look so young! Like maybe in your forties? I like your hair, too. Do what you like and rock on!
ReplyDeleteI love dangling earrings and big hoops and I am defiantly of a "certain" age.
ReplyDeleteLiving near Chicago is a big plus for me. I am far enough north to be surrounded by agriculture but still only 25 min from Lake Michigan. 45 min from the city. There are many lakes nearby but they are well developed with housing surrounding them, lots of noisy boats and jet skies, bars and idiots. Not my cup of tea.
It's funny, I missed the news and internet for over a week and don't feel like I missed much.
that first photo with the windshield reflection is awesome. i sat and looked and looked to make sure it was the windshield, then read your comments and it was.. great shot. i can count on the fingers of one hand the sunsets i have seen.... but i have seen hundreds of sunrise, which look exactly like sunset.... i am past a certain age so I say wear what you want to wear... my friend is 75 and she wears dangling, they are dainty and hang about 1 inch or less... if a person has long hair then they need to be bigger.. also each person knows what looks best on them. my hubby loves dangly earrings, but i can't wear them because i have no neck and a fat chin and they touch me and drive me nuts... i once had someone write on my blog that they did not like the black background with colored writing. so much for that comment. i love black and black it has been since 09...
ReplyDeletei managed to NOT reply to the comment. i have a tendency to say what pops in my head and that is not always good.
i wrote so much i forgot the question.. how did that happen. LOL....the thing i love about where we are is we are close to everything and anything. beaches are 7 miles, preserves are 5 and 7, museums and gardens and rivers and down town are all under 10 miles. Walmart is 2 miles, hospital is 2, doc is 3, CVS is .6 of a mile... and i love the blue sky with white clouds and love love love our winters... i do tend to fret if their is a looming hurricane and once in a while fret about sink holes.
ReplyDeleteYou live in a gorgeous place. It's nice to watch such beautiful colors in the sky !
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend :)
What beautiful pictures! I also like the reflection on the hood...it makes that one a little extra special.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!
ReplyDeleteOne of the wonderful things about summer; the weather is so nice, it's easy to get out and enjoy the sunrises and sunsets.
It's easy to find bad/sad news. We have to seek the good. The good in our lives, our days, and in others.
I'll bet your really looking forward to your vacation!! Fall is a great time to take a vacation!!
Have a happy weekend.
K.
Beautiful pictures. They are peaceful and remind me just how beautiful the Lord has made things for us.
ReplyDeleteThe news is quite worrisome, yet we must keep looking at the beauty around us and our blessings and continue in our trust.
Blessings, Catherine
HA! Yes, do wear what you like, but VERY large dangling earrings really do not look good imho since the weight of them elongates the pierce hole and the ear lobe. I just don't think it's an attractive look on 'most' women of age. I blogged about the sad news yesterday. It really is sad,
ReplyDeleteDangle earrings find my ears depending on the occasion or what I am wearing and I am quite a bit beyond a "certain age.".
ReplyDeleteSunsets like those give us hope on days when there seems to be no light in our troubled world.
I totally agree with you. I love sitting on our porch and seeing the sun rise and set. Beautiful pictures of the sunset.
ReplyDeleteI have so many random thoughts throughout the day, I surely should link to this party. :)
ReplyDeleteI love hoop earrings and have nearly always worn them.Dangles tend to pull my face downward and I can't afford one more thing pulling this olden face down. :)
I don't know where to begin...your sunset is beautiful. All the shots.
ReplyDeleteDangling earrings...that is the only type I wear if I wear any. And I swear, though I may not wear them, I don't care if they are flashy, or what. Even from a young age, I have been drawn to older women that had the nerve to wear what they want. Dangling earrings are a plus in my book. There are some things I would like to wear, but don't because of my age...but it would not bother me in the least if someone else my age wore them.
The best part of the area I live...we are in a very small town and not really close to any really large city. Therefore, I can be 'in the country' within 5 minutes. Up until the past couple of years, the strip pit area held so many attractions, but everything is so quiet out there now I can drive through and all I see are red winged blackbirds. And until just the past few years, have had wonderful neighbors all around...still have some good ones but lets just say I don't leave the doors unlocked when we leave...not ever. I would say 6-8 years ago, they were never locked unless we were completely leaving town.
Love the scenery, so beautiful Cheryl, Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, I am taking some me time visiting my friends. Your sunsets are beautiful on the lake. I wear dangling ear-rings once in a while. I think it is up to the individual what they wear regardless of age. Just because we are getting older doesn't mean we have to give up some of the things that we like. We are lucky because we can go to the bigger cities depending on what we like to do. Omaha is 2 hour drive or go the other way to Kansas City. We will have the chiefs in town for training camp at our college later this month if you are a fan. The two lane country roads always give us scenery. I think I know where you will be going. You are so close to Branson that is probably where I would go. Take care my friend. Hugs and Prayers from Your NW Missouri Friend
ReplyDeleteWell---I can HOPE that you are coming to the SMOKIES on vacation.. That way, I'll get to meet you!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sunset photos. You have a perfect place to watch the sun go down.. How peaceful and awesome is that.
More worried about tornadoes here than earthquakes... Mother Nature can be bad to us in so many ways!!!!! BUT---she can be 'nice' also---when we see sunsets like you photographed..
Hugs,
Betsy
Gorgeous sunsets!
ReplyDeleteAnd I say go for the dangling earrings! I think that earrings should fit the shape of the face and express the personality of the wearer. What does "a certain age" have to do with it...unless you're wearing "Hello Kitty" earrings or something like that?! :D
Gorgeous sunsets.....I'm sure this was a relaxing evening for you!! Girl....I have always lived in a small town and my...has it ever changed. I liked it when all of us kinfolks were the only ones here....all 200 of us. I say go for the earrings. I love bling of all kinds!!! The more blingy things are.....the better!!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are spectacular. I love lakes too. We have to drive a while to get to one but there are a few within about an hour drive. I loved danging earrings. We are in earthquake area; which is kind of scary. I will look forward to finding out where you are going on vacation. I keep hope we actually get one this year.
ReplyDeleteBlessings for these beautiful pictures today~
Gorgeous scenes. Earrings or any jewelry for that matter,I say wear whatever makes you feel good. Age has nothing to do with it.
ReplyDeleteI love to take photographs reflecting off my car windows too. Sunsets by a lake are beautiful indeed. Haven't had an earthquake here in a long while. But it was frightening when we did.
ReplyDeleteWear what you like and enjoy is my thought on dangling earrings or anything, Cheryl. Best feature about our small town is the friendliness and general helpfulness of people. The news is VERY depressing most days so I am glad we do not watch TV, but read online and then stop after a certain point. No earthquake risk in our area, but hurricanes are more a possibility.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sunset shots! It's amazing that you were able to take them with your dangling earrings, ha ha ha :)
ReplyDeleteNice to see a random 5 party is starting up again...I will go over and check it out! :)
WOW! The sunset is super! Yes, I say wear what you like and if it's dangling earrings then sobeit! I have no idea who makes up such silly rules...but they ARE silly.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sunsets.. where the dang heck are you? Wear what YOU like! Iwear dangling earrings and so does my sis-in-law and we are women of a certain age! Best feature near us.. The Lake, the wineries, and The Billiard Room for the best cheeseburger and fries in Columbia!.. :)
ReplyDeleteI gave up dangly earrings in my 30's...that was a long time ago. They kept tangling in my long hair! Wear what you like! I think my list of dislikes are longer than my like...I like that there is not much traffic! I hate skeeters, ssnakes, humidity, heat. below zero and ice.
ReplyDeleteI am certain Minnesota has had a few earthquakes but not many:)
Great sunset shots! I also enjoyed your sunflowers in the previous post!
I never pay attention to what folks say women of certain ages should wear. I'll be 70 next April. I wear dangly earrings, have a super-short, fun hairstyle ---- and I refuse to "think old"! I work at staying young and still do low-impact aerobics every other day, walk four miles on the "off" days. The farm work helps, too --- there's always lots of that.
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't worry about earthquakes or anything else for that matter. And I know what you mean about the news. I purposely avoid it and would much rather do something active and fun.
Here's to the goodness of God and His unending love for us! That's my focus!
Hi Cheryl! My son turned 18 and I believe our boys have the same birthday?? :)
ReplyDeleteYour photos are gorgeous!!! I'm just now starting to post again. This move took a lot of me. lol
As far as earrings, I believe whatever makes a person happy and feel good is what he or she should wear. I see things out in public that I believe are inappropriate for children to see, but I've never seen earrings and thought it could be damaging to anyone. LOL
Gorgeous photos . . .
ReplyDeleteDangling earrings . . . nothing to daring . . . a few dangles have met my ears. . .
Your pictures are amazing. I, too, live near a lake, and we enjoy visiting often. I love all kinds of earrings and think you should wear what you enjoy. Wishing you a lovely week. Mildred
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful sunset photos! They always look so much more stunning when taken going down over the water. I think my areas best asset are the mountains! We went up a mountain that was 14,270 feet today!
ReplyDeleteI like dangling earrings and wear them when I'm "dressed up" For every day I wear studs or none at all.
ohhh these are beautiful skies!!! missouri has wonderful lakes! i can't remember if i told you my husband has family at lake of the ozarks...we used to go visit them when we lived in willard. and we also loved to go to lake taneycomo! i am a dangly earring kind of girl. on a daily basis i only wear diamond studs in my second holes because i never take them out and sleep in them...i only wear earrings in my first holes when i think about it, or go out at night...when i am going out at night, you can bet i'll be wearing big hoops...i'm a hoop girl! thanks for linking!! hope to see you again next friday!
