Barn Charm

This barn shot was taken over the weekend not too far from home.  I didn't notice what was sitting on top until I was looking at the shots on my computer.

I still couldn't tell what they were until I enlarged this photo and saw the bald heads...turkey vultures.  These are SOOC shots as I haven't had time to do much online lately.  This old charmer doesn't look like it will stand much longer.

Recently I've driven by 2 barns that I've shown in the past year that have already been torn down and they were in much better shape than this one.  One of them was replaced with the new metal variety and, of course, it's not nearly as charming as the old barn was.

Thanks for stopping by!
Until next time...

  2. Vultures waiting for the barn to die. So sad. I have never understood why people let big barns just fall down... just some wood and nails here and there through the years could have saved it. Ownership is daily repairs sometimes. xoxo,Susie

  3. looks like those buzzards are waiting for the barn to die... when i saw the first photo, i thought I will huff and i will puff and i will blow your house down, in this case barn down... it would not take much. that said it is charming.

  6. That one does look like it's not long for this world. Do you make calendars or things out of your barn pics? I bet they'd be pretty popular, though I'm guessing you've already thought that at some point too. :)

  7. Oh that is a beautiful barn let me rephrase that it was probably a Magnificent barn and now the turkey vultures seem to know what is ahead and they wait. Sad but it seems to be the way it is now. Great shots. B

  8. The turkey vultures on the roof really set a mood for the photo. I suspect this barn will have difficulty making it through much of a storm. You got some great shots, though.

  10. So sad that the old barns get dozed. I believe it's important we capture them when we can. These are great, Cheryl!

  13. No---I don't care for the metal barns.. They definitely are not as charming as the older ones... Hope someone will fix this one up--without tearing it down... The buzzards obviously like that vantage point!!!

  16. This is a great old barn but so sad looking too. And those ugly old vultures kind of go with the sad looking barn. Great photos!

  17. Cheryl, I absolutely LOVE old barns. When I went back to the farm I grew up on this past winter all the barns were gone. They said the big barn there was being built when they got news Lincoln had been shot...and they all took off on horses in different directions to spread the word. I wish I had taken more pictures of it- xo Diana

  23. Good that you captured this barn before it's gone. I have a couple like this to post, I just have to find them and I don't have the patience right now. So many barns and old houses being torn down.

  24. Sure is a charmer...hope they don't tear it down until you take it's picture in every season.

  25. That first photo should be framed! Lovely!

  26. Wonderful old barn! Makes you wonder if the turkey vultures are just waiting for the barn to fall down so they can find some dinner.

  27. I've been out of "circulation" for a while, but nice to see your blog is as lovely as ever! I see 10 to 15 of these vultures on my way to work everyday, all gathered together in a and around an isolated stand of trees. Kind of creepy! Great shots today though... As well as the landscape shots in your prior post...

  28. Some day in the distant future, someone will be traveling around taking pictures of rusted barns. It will not be nearly as interesting nor hold the nostalgia.

  29. It does look a bit fragile at this point, doesn't it?
