I guess you could call me a cheap date. Hubby and I picked up some fast food Saturday evening and headed to the lake to eat it. We sat for quite a long time visiting and watching the various birds and gazing at the water. The sun was playing peek-a-boo behind the clouds with the rays streaming down every now and then. It was a beautiful evening. But all good things must come to an end, as they say, and it was time to head back to the house.
On our way back, I was driving across the dam of the lake and admiring the red bud trees that are still in bloom when I squealed and almost slammed on the brakes. I asked BG to quickly hand me my camera bag that I always carry with me. I zoomed in and asked "do you see what I see"?
I zoomed in as far as I could, and there he/she was!!
I had already spotted what I thought were a few Bald Eagles flying high over the lake when we eating. I was super excited to spot the nest and although it wasn't close enough to get a real clear shot and the skies were darkening, you can see the Baldie in the nest!
The sighting and snapping all happened in a matter of minutes and while BG admires Bald Eagles, too, he just doesn't quite get my excitement at seeing them. I reminded him that while it takes bling and such to please some women, isn't he lucky that it's the simple things like bird sightings that make me happy?? He just laughed. :)
It was the perfect ending to our cheap date. The outing didn't cost much, but the rewards of finding a Bald Eagle nest complete with the eagle sitting in it were priceless!
Edited to add: We were under a tornado watch the biggest part of the day, but we're safe as I write this. We had rain and a bit of hail, otherwise all is well. Hope all our blogging friends in the path of the storms are safe/stay safe, too.
Happy Monday to you!
Until next time...
xoxo Cheryl
Love that you call a drive to your favourite lake with a fast food take away 'a date'. Then on the drive home, the icing on the cake. the bald eagle sitting on it's nest. I can understand your excitement.
ReplyDeleteSounds like my kind of date, Cheryl. Beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteLove to have a fast food in front of the lovable lake. You must have a wonderful time on Saturday!
ReplyDeleteNothing more satisfying than a day at the lake. Love the bald eagle. That's how I feel when I see a heron.
ReplyDeletei am a cheap date lover myself and yours could not have been better. what a great ending of your date night... wow, i am surprised you saw him/her
ReplyDeleteIndeed, life's simple pleasures are the best! Wonderful sighting!
ReplyDelete(Happy to hear you're safe!)
Beautiful scenery and love the bonus at the end...spotting the nest; how exciting! :)
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I would have reacted the same way. :):) I think that was wonderful. I loved your pictures too. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel. Your date night sounds just like the dates my husband and I have. He eats his lunch everyday at a park next to a river, and saw two eagles flying there earlier this year. So, we took our picnic lunch there on a Saturday so that I could see the eagles too. When we go on a drive, we always look for hawks. But I understand Taryterre -- I love to see great blue herons!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a cheap date too, Cheryl. :-) I enjoy the same things - simple nature gifts from God. And isn't it a joy to come upon an eagle's nest! We have many of them up here, for the nest along the rivers.
ReplyDeleteThat would be my date night too, sounds perfect Cheryl. Great scenery, beautiful Eagle, Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteI don't date anymore, but when I did I too was a cheap date. I love the simple things for sure.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are breathtaking, as usual. seeing the Eagle gave me goosebumps.
Wow...amazing! I know what you mena...I would rather be doing this sort of thing than anything else!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear from you and to hear that you are safe. I've read about the damage in Missouri and Arkansas.. It's heading our way now. In fact, we woke up during the night to hail hitting our windows....More is coming! YIPES.
ReplyDeleteLove those cheap dates. We do that ALOT...They can be the best kind of all. You got some great photos --and I'm so glad you saw the Eagles and nest... WOW.
Hugs,
Betsy

ReplyDeleteI am glad you are alright. Spring has come with of course tornado season and bad weather of all kinds. Your tree is beautiful, is it a red bud? Wow, your eyesight is wonderful, I would never have seen the bald eagle. What a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteLucky you, Cheap date with your sweetie and a Bald Eagle sighting too!! There have been some sightings in our county in Illinois and that is a new thing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the worst of that weather is south of you, I hope it stays there.
I like your idea of a date. My Hubby and I have had many times like that and trust me,those are the times I recall with greatest fondness now. The Eagle was the PERFECT way to end the day.

ReplyDeletei love to go to the lake and picnic with my friends, watch and feed the ducks. looks like you had a great evening, cheryl.
ReplyDeletelovely photos, too. such a beautiful scenery.
happy tuesday~
i linked to you today!
First, glad to read the last sentence that you were safe as we have watched the devastation over the past few days in so many states. As for a cheap date outing, yours and BG sounded great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful picture moment. Here in Utah I don't think I have seen one in a very long time. When we lived in Washington we saw them several times. Birds do fascinate me. I loved the idea of your cheap date. As soon as it gets a bit warmer here I will make sure we try this one. Nothing better than a picnic at the lake.
ReplyDeleteBlessings for the thoughts~
Nothing quite like seeing our noble bird! That just makes any day special!
