I'm joining Gathering the Moments at Cheryl's Thinking About Home today for a look back at the month of January.
Fortified with a few cups of hot cocoa, I finally got the Christmas tree and decor put away after the first week of January. Always nearby, Stormy found an empty box to sleep in while I was working. I told her she was too big for the box, but she didn't listen. At least it kept her from trying to climb the tree before I got it dismantled!
We had some foundation work done on our basement which started the first week of January. They probably picked the worst time to begin, but it's all finished now. The only thing left to do is get our porch replaced and hope the grass seeds sprout and grow this spring.
January brought us a new kitten inside to tame and try to find a home for him. He made himself at home very quickly and loves to watch the cursor when the laptop is being used. He is a cutie and surely someone will want him. He had a trial run at one home, but it was found that someone in the family was highly allergic to cats and he came back to us.
We had frosty days, snowy days, a few mild and sunny days, and bone-chilling cold days in January. A few days were spent perusing cookbooks and trying out a few new recipes. A lot of old standbys such as soup was eaten...chili, potato soup, and chicken noodle soup. Comfort foods are hard to beat when the weather is cold and gloomy. Ice cream for dessert is always good in any kind of weather.
Play time included watching the ice floating down the Missouri River, a couple of trips to a few flea markets, and watching for those beautiful Missouri sunsets for a photo op.
Lastly, what else is there to do when the weather is very cold? Why just curl up and take a nap! All in all, I'd have to say that in spite of the fact that January is not a favorite month of mine, it did go by quickly and I'm thankful that all my loved ones stayed healthy and safe. May February be a good month for each of us!
Happy Monday to you.
Until next time...

January is a good month for warm drinks and cozy naps. :)
ReplyDeleteGood riddance to January and all those frigid temps. LOVE your sunny disposition about the month and your activities, though.
ReplyDeleteI love the cat in the "too small" box....gave me my giggle for the day.
ReplyDeleteHope the kitten finds a good home soon.....I would have the little one in a heartbeat but distance is a problem.

ReplyDeleteFor some reason. letting go of January left a pang in my heart. One month already gone. I guess, it is better than having problems and then letting it go.

That was a busy January, Cheryl. Wonder what February will be like for you? I sure hope it is a good one.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely gathering, Cheryl! I enjoyed looking at each picture individually (loved Stormy in the box!) and seeing your January at a glance, and I also liked reading your summary. A lot happens in a month's time, doesn't it?! (Even in January!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up!
Cheryl, I love your cat photos and that beautiful sunset. Hope you are keeping warm. We are in for some more of that nasty snow, as long as that arctic wind stuff stays away, we will be okay. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeletethe top left whip cream shot is ME... yummm and glad the work is completed...
ReplyDeleteYour collages and reviews are nice, Cheryl. Except for the basement work -(yuk)-, this is a great wintertime month of happenings.
ReplyDeleteLooks like January still held some lovely things in spite of the winter days.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! And I just want to curl up with the kitty and take a nap! :)
Happy Monday Cheryl...
ReplyDeleteYou have a sweet mixture of photos here. I must say, that cup of chili looks so inviting. It's cool here and what better way to warm for the tummy. Not a great month for having to dig ditches and do repairs, but I know your glad it's done.
Y'all stay warm today..
hugs to you
My best guess is that these months in review will come in very handy. My archives are a frightful disaster and with search features not always working...ai yi yi. You create the most lovely collages. They exude warmth and cozy!

Oh !your photo of that sunset , I've been painting skies in my painting challenge, Would you give me permission to use your photo. I would only be using it for my own use I am not an artist just an amateur learning different techniques.
