How can it be that it's Friday already??? That means it's time for Random 5 Friday hosted by Nancy from A Rural Journal where we select 5 facts about ourselves, our children, our pets, our lives or whatever. Here we go:
1. Do you remember when you used to spell certain words around your children when they were very young and you didn't want them to know what you were talking about? Well, we have to spell the word "ice cream" when my kitty, Stormy, is within earshot. She loves it.
2. I didn't have to bake cookies after all. I presented the idea to BG of fixing up a wall unit of a couple of bookcases on either side of a new tv and he was all for it!
3. I've been thinking about comfort food the last few days of this very cold weather. On the menu tonight will be my favorite potato soup. What is your favorite soup?
4. The birds are loving the seeds from the sunflowers I grew last year. I will plant more this year. I won't tell you how I long for seed planting weather.
Brett, who needs a haircut, and Kim
5. My last random is from the past. Those are my two kids feeding our new little colt. We had horses until we moved to this house and they were sold. It's been many years since I've been horseback riding, but I used to enjoy it very much. Now that I'm older I think I'll keep my feet on the ground, but the fact is that I still love horses.
Note: I called the baby foal a colt because it was a boy. A female foal is also referred to as a filly.

Until next time...
Right now my favourite soup is leek and potato - YUM. That reminds me, I need to get some leeks at the grocery store today.
ReplyDeleteOh your potato soup makes me so hungry I love potato soup. Love the photo of your children with the new colt we do not have horses either but I love seeing them on other farms. Happy Friday. B
ReplyDeleteMy husband sometimes says we should get a horse or two... but I've never ridden and don't know a thing about horses (other than they are expensive to keep!), so I do what I can to bring him back to reality.
ReplyDeleteThat soup looks awesome!
I just took out the ham bone from the Christmas ham out of the freezer for ham, bean and vegetable soup ! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll just do ham broth today, skim it tomorrow and load it all up with plenty of vegetables and some tomatoes that I canned this summmer. Not a BIG bean fan so there will be more veggies than beans :)
your post really warmed me up. i love the sunflowers. so pretty!! great times.
ReplyDeletehave a happy weekend. ( :
Great post Cheryl, ahh, we also had horses and loved to ride, Francine.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Nancy... your soup looks awesome! Nothing better on a cold winter day that's for sure. No horses here either. xox

ReplyDeleteLOL! I knew the mention of a new TV would be enough. LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove that photo of your daughters with the horses. There are a lot of things I still love... but, from a distance. ;) blessings ~ tanna
So fun to read your random thoughts this morning.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of your kids with the horses is so sweet.
The bowl of soup looks so good. It's hard for me to pick a favorite soup as I like a lot of different ones. Last night I made a ham and bean soup that was delicious.
I'm going to get some sunflower seeds to plant this year. Yours is so gorgeous.
Oh I love the old photos that take us back. Your children were adorable! Do they allow photos now? =D I had no idea that you once raised horses or that you used to enjoy horseback riding.
ReplyDeleteYay! You must have presented the bookcase idea very well. I am sure that you'll all enjoy the results.

It is definitely soup time and I think my favorite is split pea. Love the ice cream and giggled about spelling things -- even with the kitties. Sunflowers are such a happy flower -- for people and birds! There is something about little girls (big girls too) and horses. Love them even though I haven't been on one in years.
ReplyDeleteFavorite soup~Vegetable Beef but now that I am having to stay away from acid-ie foods.. POtaTO!!! Sweet picture of your kids with the foal.. :) That photo of the kitties up top is very funny! AND cute!!! We are up to 9 degrees, Oh MY!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, potato soup is one of the tops on my list, yours looks delicious, would love to have the recipe!
ReplyDeleteWe are having to spell around our dog Jack, ~smile~
I too love horses but have opted to keep my feet on the ground too!! For now I will enjoy watching them! I am so looking forward to seed planting time, too! Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy your weekend!

ReplyDeletei think i need a whole field of sunflowers... :)
My mom had a cat that loved ice cream! Too funny!
ReplyDeleteI'd be hard pressed to name my favorite soup...there are so many, but potato soup is on my menu plan for next week. Yours looks delicious!
Love the photo of your children! Time flies, doesn't it?
I am longing for seed planting time, too. I love vegetable and potato soup about equally. And I do mean LOVE...and I make a broccoli soup that is different to any other I have ever tasted and I just crave it every now and then.
ReplyDeletePotato soup is my fave, yours looks yummy! I am planning my garden too. I have never planted sunflowers, so I am doing a mass planting at the side of the house this year. I am hoping to get lots of seeds for the birds.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl, Chicken Noodle always makes me feel better, but I love potato soup. My dil gave me a recipe where you can make it without milk. We use to take a drive to Kansas to see the sunflower fields all in bloom a beautiful sight. The wind sure has been blowing even today. I wish it would stop for just a little while, but we are warmer today. Your little kitten is so adorable. Have a beautiful day. Stay warm and safe. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteWe only got soup as kids if we were sick. Sadly, now days that is what I relate soup to--the punies.
ReplyDeleteCaught a bit of Ellen on TV the other day. Seems she loves black and white cats and has none. Maybe you should send her Sox's pic. Make it the belly shot.
Boy ... that soup looks like it would hit the spot right about now ... did you make it?
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.

The fist picture is sweet :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, Cheryl. Love that last shot of your kids. I used to ride, too, but haven't ridden in years- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWe have a favorite potato soup recipe and one that is Sausage Tomato Soup that just got a healthy makeover, made it with Turkey Italian Sausage. Not too bad, I am sure we will get use to it.
ReplyDeleteWe love eating soup in the wintertime and your potato looks delicious....Your kitties are so cute. You don't see many with that particular coloration...
ReplyDeleteI miss my horse so much...they are so special....Grandchildren just seem to have taken my time right now...
Wish we lived closer...I'd be over for supper! I love potato soup!! And we have to spell food words too, in front of our dog! But now he can spell too...lol It don't work anymore! Too smart!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gert
I felt some nice warmth on a cold day today! Loved the sunflower. And that cat - I know why! sandie
