The Weekend

I snapped some of the last zinnias over the weekend.  I think they are about finished for the season since it is so dry and I stopped watering them a while back.  As of this writing, we've had a little shower but much more is needed.

Hubby took me to the Longhorn Steakhouse yesterday.   I had the ribeye on the left and his was, of course, the ribeye with the french fries.  We have a little joke in our family about his love for french fries.  They are his choice of potato.  Always.  Anyone see the movie Slingblade?  The character, Karl, loved french fries and mustard and Hub can imitate him perfectly saying so with the Uh Hum at the end.  You'd have to know the movie for this to make sense.  Moving on...I chose the dish in the middle pic in place of a salad.  I eat plenty of salad at home, so I chose the brussels sprouts au gratin.  It was very good!

We did some other exciting things yesterday like go to Lowe's, Menard's, and Bass Pro.   Ha!   I did get to run into the Dollar Tree for some silk flowers to add to a fall wreath I'm trying to put together.  My fall decorating is coming along slowly.  How about yours?

I've had a gift card at the local bookstore that I intended to use on a particular book I've been wanting, but the book wasn't in and so I decided to go with a selection of magazines.  I've had such fun looking at these and getting some new ideas.  Do you find decorating inspiration from magazines or do the wonderful home and garden blogs give you more ideas?  I really love seeing new ways to use things I already have.

I just had to close with one more zinnia shot.  Shhh, don't tell Stormy!   I am going to miss them, but we have the wonderful, glorious fall colors on the way!  I'm looking forward to seeing them.  Mums and pumpkins are already at the market.  Have you bought a few yet?  Autumn officially begins next Sunday!

Until next time...

  8. How I love the zinnia . I plant them everywhere . They provide great color and I send everyone home with bouquets of them when they visit, plus have vases of them throughout the house all of their grown season. The more you cut them the more flowers they sprout. We still have good weather so probably a few more weeks left for them here.
You photos of them are great.

  12. Oh, yes, I do still get inspirations from magazines! And I am s-l-o-w-l-y getting autumn touches in my decorating. No "decorating blitz" for me this year...just a meandering bit of fallishness here and there.

And now I want at steak. At 9:37 am. I am very prone to suggestion.

  15. Not only are mums and pumpkins out for us---but Cracker Barrel has Christmas music and Christmas trees already set up in their store... GADS!

We haven't been to Longhorn in a long time. We always choose to go to Texas Roadhouse. Had a bad experience at Outback not long ago--so won't go there again for a LONG time...

Your brussel sprouts sound good... What a nice side for them to offer... YUM.

Love your Zinnias --and I won't tell Stormy. I promise.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  16. Zinnias are so pretty. I think they look beautiful in autumn, too. I have geraniums this year and coleus. That's about it for annuals...oh and the morning glory.

Purchased a bag of jack be little pumpkins and that is the extent of autumn things. Hope that you'll show us the autumn wreath.

  19. The first zinnia picture the top left. I have never seen one like this, is the wind blowing or something? No center, just all beautiful petals!!! The brussels sprouts au gratin look very god! YES, we have seen Sling Blade and the fries thing! I am waiting to see what you make!!! I have started decorating, but would like some new ideas. I cannot create, but can copy. I have no artistic talent.

  22. Your zinnias are still gorgeous. And it looks like rain is on the way... tomorrow and Thursday, too! I get inspiration from pictures in magazines and on blogs and pinterest, etc.... but what I really need is for my sister to come and decorate my house for me. She just has a way with things. A God given talent.

  23. Oh, your pictures are always so awesome. I still have some lovely flowers out back; I should take a picture and post them. I can't believe fall is here already and I haven't had time to think much about it.
    Blessings!

  24. I am very familiar with 'Slingblade'. My hubby watches it often....he can probably quote the lines by now!

I love the zinnias. I vow to plant them next year again. I don't know how I failed to this year.

    No rain down here either.

I know that movie Sling Blade...and I can hear Carl saying he liked french fried taders. :):) Your steak looked very good. I can't remember the last time I had steak..I just don't eat a lot of red meats...now that I am so darned old. oxoxo,Susie
