Random 5 Friday

It's Friday!!  Once again I'm participating in Nancy's Random 5 Friday.

1.  We are needing rain.  We're almost through the first week of September and we're hoping to see some cooler temperatures soon, too.  I think the weather and pollen is playing havoc with my sinuses.  I've had a yucky headache for a few days.

2.  I went to our nearest city yesterday and stopped by the resale shop.  I found 3 books that I didn't need, but bought anyway.  We have inherited a large bookcase that needs some sprucing up and I hope to get started on that project soon.

3.  Speaking of books, last night I finished the book I was sent to review.  Now, I've got to try to do the review justice.  It was a good read, but also one that left me thinking.  I'll tell all about it soon.

4.  I walked into a little antique/vintage shop the other day and it had a such a wonderful scent.  The owner told me that she was burning candles from W-Mart called Pumpkin Spice.  I picked up a couple of them, they were only 5 dollars for the large size.  Umm, they smell so nice!

5.  My decluttering project has never really gotten off the ground yet.  It's a daunting task.  I can't believe I've accumulated so much junk stuff.  A lot of it is paper...old receipts, bills, magazines, etc.  There was an article online that I read today that listed over 100 things you should throw away.  So if you need to declutter like I do and need help deciding what to throw out, HERE is where you can find the list.

Happy Friday to you and have a wonderful weekend!

Until next time...

  2. Decluttering is a daunting task indeed. When we moved into our Trailer, we had to go through everything. What to keep.. What to get rid of.. A task indeed.

Hope you have a happy weekend.

    Hugs~

I try and I try...and yesterday while skimming for treasures in antique shops I spied this wonderful round mirror. I didn't buy it, and it is killing me!!! Have a great day!

  5. Well, a list for decluttering! Does it list my bedroom? Number 10.....Leave It To Davis's bedroom and all that is in it! Just this morning, my mom was telling me what a mess her room was....so I took a look. I said, "you don't know what a mess is!" and explained how messy my house is. She said she saw pictures of my house on my blog and knows it doesn't look like that.....and I said, "I don't take pictures in my bedroom or of my computer desk." There abounds and reproduces litter, junk, dust, crap....you name it what you will....it all needs to be thrown out!

  6. I'm still cleaning out. lol There are some items like my son's art work and sentimental items that I will not throw out. :) Helpful list, thanks!

  9. I'm still in declutter mode but took a detour to deep clean the bathrooms. I read the list you linked to, which is pretty self-explanatory, except the spare change entry. What!!?

Thanks for joining in at R5F this week Cheryl. xo

  12. I am going to check out those pumpkins candles at WMart. I really love that scent and the ones I have been buying are a LOT more expensive.

I have been decluttering as I go along- It really feels good. I bet I donated 100 PENS to a thrift store!

Great post, Cheryl. Hope you have a wonderful Thursday- xo Diana

  13. Cheryl,

We have been lucky in the rain department. We got 1.30" last week. In the last 3 weeks our unseasonably cool summer turned hot. Hot, hot.

Books are always a good investment. I love to read. My Mom is an avid reader too. She shares some of the coolest things she has learned from books and magazines.

Good Luck with your decluttering project. I don't like clutter and keep things pretty tidy. But, we all have a certain amount of extra stuff. I decluttered earlier this summer and need to take my pile of unwanted stuff to town.

  15. I travel light but there are a lot of things on that list in my house. Hidden.
    Beautiful Sunset!!

  16. That is a long list. I guess cleaning can be a chore if we let things accumulate.
I hope that your sinuses are not bothering you any more.

  17. I am definitely going to have to look up that list of what to throw away! LOL

  18. ooohhhh it's definitely time for fall scents!! I bought one in Cape May today that the store was burning, called Bed and Breakfast!! It wasn't a name brand, but smelled awesome!!

    Have a wonderful weekend Cheryl!!

  19. Although I am not a huge fan of Walmart (even though I go there far too often...I guess I am a fan of their prices), I think that some of their candles are wonderful! I like the pumpkin, mulled cider, French vanilla...they smell good while burning as well as in the jar. (That is not true of every candle. Candles are not all created equally.) :)

I just read the list of 116 items to throw away. Interesting! We have done a lot of purging this summer. Some days we crossed many of these items off the list. We still have more to do, but no more chunks of time to work on it now that our (home)school is beginning again. Maybe I should print out this list and do as it suggests...purge ONE type of item per day. Every little bit helps.

(I get chatty when it's late.)

You are going to laugh...I have been meaning to do the Random 5 for a while now. I always enjoy reading everyone's...but always forget it till it is past.

This morn I came by your blog, saw your title, hurried to fix my own post and am just now back here! Totally forgot I had not even read your post...let alone not commented.

  24. Hope your headache is better! Oh, I feel your pain with the declutter project!! I've been trying to do the same for MONTHS now... I seem to make progress in one area and then move on and the next thing I know the one I HAD de-cluttered is getting stuff accumulated again!!! Grrrrr! Good luck with yours. I'm going to go check the list! Thanks, Cheryl. blessings ~ tanna

  28. That's a fantastic sunset! Thanks for sharing it. Clutter. My middle name. I'm not a hoarder though, because I do have spells of throwing everything away. :)

  29. What a fabulous sunset. I really hope to meet sometime between your town and mine and seek out perfect photos. I know Missouri needs rain, but not this weekend because we have four or more different festivals going on now. Monday would be soon enough. Now I'm heading over to the list to see what I need to get rid of.

By the way, I wasn't interested in your review project. What kind of books do you review? And for what source?

  30. I am afraid pumpkin candles would make me HUNGRY.
You have me motivated to clean up some of my old papers, receipts and cancelled checks. Yes, I still write the occasional check.

  31. Hi Cheryl~

I love antique stores...and pumpkin spice candles...I just don't like Walmart...might have to make a trip anyway!

I love that list, you know, I think I have one of almost everything on it!! I don't know why you would want to throw away "old change" though?!

We need rain too - praying that we get a wet Autumn, and snowy winter, minus the slick roads.

Can't wait for your book review!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  37. Hi Cheryl, We have had way to much rain this summer and it has played havoc on our crops. I pray you get some real soon. I enjoy these out of the way antique shops and am over due for a ride to this small town next to us that has them in abundance. I found this pumpkin spice candle at Wal-mart too, and just love it so much. It beats paying for those high priced ones. ~smile~. Lovely photo you have shared.
    Blessings,
    Sue

  41. We got a little of that precious rain yesterday! I hope you did too. My kitchen counter is constantly burdened with a stack of paper. It is called mail. When I go through it at least 90 percent of it is thrown away and I end up keeping a few sheets. It is so hard to throw those magazines away, but I've gotten to where if there is something in them that I want to keep, I just tear those pages away and toss the rest. Good luck with your decluttering project!
