We had a beautiful Easter weekend. The redbuds are beginning to bloom in my yard and the forsythias are in full bloom. It's such a beautiful time of year that you just can't help but smile when you see green grass and pretty flowering trees out your window.
We made another trip to Nebraska Furniture Mart on Saturday which is 12 miles west of downtown Kansas City. It was a nice trip and we got to see our son and his girlfriend again and had another good visit.
This store is huge and BG and I walked over much of it. I snapped this shot as we were about to the end of our ride on the escalator. This is just a small portion of the main floor. What brought us back to this place was the free shipping and sales which ends on Tuesday. I did order the tv stand that I showed in this post. I also bought a new mattress that I hope will help my aching back.
We also looked at recliners and I fell in love with this leather beauty. There is just one problem. How would it hold up with kitties in the house? Give me your opinion please! Especially if you've had leather and kitties in the same house! I looked at the fabric recliners, but they all pale in comparison to this beauty. We brought the ordering info home and we need to make a decision today before the sale goes off tomorrow with the free shipping!
We spent quite a long time looking and pondering. We don't make purchases like this as often as some folks I know, so I make sure it is something I'm going to love! Once we made a decision on the mattress and while still pondering the recliner, I just enjoyed looking at the decor items. BG dutifully followed along...hating every minute, I'm sure. lol! I spied a pillow and thought it was something I'd like. That is, until I saw the price tag.
Nearly 85 bucks for a throw pillow...I don't think so. I must say, though, that this store has it all and most things have very reasonable prices. I mentioned that it is huge, with a total of 1.1 million sq ft of retail and warehouse space. No wonder my poor feet and knees were aching at the end of the day! I had fun looking and I'm glad we finally got the tv table and mattress ordered. We were needing them.
Now...on to the big news for today. I have a winner to announce for the pretty mugs that I found one day at my favorite resale shop. I didn't get a picture, but I put the numbers into the random generator and number 3 came up on my screen. And the winner who matched number 3 is....
Ginny from Let Your Light Shine blog.
Congratulations, Ginny! If you will send me your mailing address, I will get these sent to you soon.
Happy Monday to you!
xo Cheryl
The Nebraska Furniture Mart looks impressive, for sure. WOW that is alot of square footage. I know you're going to LOVE your new tv table and mattress. That chair is quite the recliner. I know nothing about kitty cats and leather. So good luck with that. Congrats to Ginny on the giveaway. Hope you had a wonderful Easter. Take care.
ReplyDeleteWow, the Furniture Mart looks amazing.. I love the recliner and the cute pillow..Maybe you can find similar material and make a pillow to look the same as the store pillow..And you know me I love your Redheaded woodie.. Awesome sighting and photo.. Have a happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteCH's Mom just bought furniture from there last month! The leather chair is beautiful. I think it depends on the cat/s. We had a leather couch very similar to your chair but different color. We had Z Cat when we had that couch and she didn't hurt it at all. She preferred a cloth recliner we had. She didn't use her claws on furniture, choosing her scratching posts over all else. We had several other cats in the early part of our married life and we also had a leather couch and chair. They never scratched on the furniture but they ruined the over-sized arms on both pieces by jumping off or pushing off in play or jumping down to the floor. It was the back claws that did the furniture in,,, we weren't too smart about clipping claws way back then though and they were a rowdy bunch of cats. Also we knew nothing then about getting them their own cat trees and scratch posts. I am glad you purchased the TV stand.. it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Ginny!
I am glad you had a nice Easter, I am not sure I got to give you Easter wishes so I will just tell you to have a wonderful Easter Monday!
That leather recliner is gorgeous! What a lovely excursion y'all had!
ReplyDeleteSouonds like a successful shopping trip to me!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great store and we don't have anything like it here where I live. I'd definitely be wearing comfortable shoes there! I love the leather chair. Have a great week!
ReplyDeletecongrats to ginny! good luck on the leather/kitty decision. have no idea!
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on your kittys:) If they jump off furniture then no I would go for something more durable and cover the arms with a throw. That chair is beautiful! What great exercise to walk around that store, we visited the one in Omaha once...it was a fun experience, we bought computer chairs. You can make a cover for a pillow with fabric similar for much less than 85 $ I think it is way overpriced:)
ReplyDeletethose mugs are going to the perfect home, Ginny LOVES things like this.. so happy for her... i really like the TV stand and it is perfect.. my style on that... no kitties but we have leather and two dogs with long claws and 7 years and no marks. Baby has really long claws that take our skin off, but don't bother the leather. the man we bought it from said if it is real leather off a cow and not fake it holds up well. but we were discussing dogs not cats.
ReplyDeleteLeather is pretty durable, I bet it would be fine. Congrats to the winner!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about winning! I e-mailed you my address. I would think that fabric or vinyl would be harder for cats to shred than leather. GO for it! An awesome red headed woodpecker! You have them in your yard? I have never seen a real one.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the winner..love the woodpecker picture, chair is beautiful too.Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteI love the woodpecker in the first photo. How beautiful! Congrats to the winner.
ReplyDeleteWowie! What a store that is!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your visit and pictures.... I saw a lot of great stuff!
No help with the leather chair and cats......sorry.
So happy for you that you had a nice weekend and bought a new mattress and t.v. stand!
Have a great day.
~K.
Congratulations to Ginny.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful place. Afraid I can't help with the cat and leather recliner question as I am allergic. Ah....choo!! xo Laura
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that recliner!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Ginny! That furniture store looks amazing and I really like that leather chair, too. Sadly, according to Houzz experts and commenters, leather will show cat scratches. Wah!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful market . . .
ReplyDeleteLove that first photo!
That looks like a really fun store to visit. So many interesting things to check out. The leather chair is a beauty. I've never owned a cat so can offer no helpful information in that area.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Ginny on being your giveaway winner.
Congrat to Ginny! No wonder your feet were sore. That was a huge store, Cherly!
ReplyDeleteThat store looks amazing! I wish we had something like that in our area. The leather recliner is gorgeous. I have three cats myself but we don't have any leather furniture, so I'm no help with that one. I can't imagine that they'd be drawn to sharpening their claws on it like they do with fabric furniture, but I'm thinking that their claws might puncture it when they walk on it? I hope the new mattress helps your back. I'm in the same boat - have bad back pain (have 3 herniated disks) despite daily yoga and lots of walking - and we need a new mattress, too. We'll be shopping for one next month.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I often go looking at furniture and other items. We have one store we like a lot that we have purchased furniture from. I need a new mattress too. Let me know what kind you got. I would love a sleep number bed; but they are so pricey. I did love your recliner. We had leather once when we had kittens and I didn't have any problem with them.
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy reading about this outing and the pictures were fun too.
Hugs!
Glad to here that you had a lovely Easter weekend! And you even managed to fit in a little shopping...that looks like a great store.
ReplyDeleteWe have only one cat in the house, but we have had a leather recliner for 7 or 8 years and the cat mostly ignores it. Simply walking across it causes no harm. Only once have we seen the cat scratch it. I don't think it's as appealing to a kitty as upholstered furniture is.
Love your woodpecker photo...stunning!
That chair is really goodlooking...we don't have cats so I can't help you there.
ReplyDeleteWe don't buy furniture too often, either so I know what you mean...:)
Hi Cheryl~
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day! I love looking around furniture stores - but like you, I don't make big purchases very often, so lots of thought needs to be put in on every purchase. I love the recliner!! I can't have kitties in my house (ALTHOUGH I LOVE THEM), but, I guess the question would be, would they scratch at it like they do fabric? if not, I think it would be great! Leather is so easy to take care of, and just more and more comfortable over time.
I can't wait until we have blossoms . . . of any kind! Enjoy your beautiful weather!
Hugs,
Barb
Congrats to Ginny! I do hope the new mattress will help you to rest better. I have 6 cats; they seem to prefer fabric to scratch on over leather. That is a gorgeous recliner. That is a great place for shopping but I would be tired too!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS TO GINNY.....SHE IS SO SWEET!! OH MY.....SEEING YOUR PICTURES OF THE PLACE, SURE MADE ME WANT TO GO CHECK IT OUT FOR MYSELF. I DON'T THINK WE HAVE ONE OF THESE STORES NEAR OUR AREA. I SAW MANY THINGS IN THE PHOTOS THAT I WOULD LOVE TO EXAMINE A LITTLE BETTER!! LOL. I DON'T HAVE CATS, SO I AM NO HELP IN GIVING YOU ADVICE...
ReplyDeleteGREAT LOOKING CHAIR....
