Good Monday morning to you! The weather has been much cooler and it's been wonderful!! It's been a great time to be outside snapping photos.
I've always loved to snap photos since I ordered my first camera so many years ago when I was a youngster. It was a Brownie camera that I ordered from the back of a cereal box for the sum of 5 dollars plus the cereal box top.
You would think that I would be pretty good at snapping pictures since I have done it for so long. But, the truth is that I was always in a hurry and didn't really take time to set up my shots. Just pointed and snapped.
I still have a problem with doing that and have to remind myself to slow down, making sure the background looks good, the lighting is right, etc. I guess you might call me the impatient photographer....just clicking merrily away and then when viewing the shots, wondering why they aren't as good as I'd like. There is a lot to improve upon and a lot to learn. Viewing the many beautiful photos in blogland helps me to want to do that.
I knew a long time ago that I didn't want to lug around a lot of heavy gear, so I bought a new camera a couple or so years ago. It is a pretty good camera that has a terrific zoom, but it is still heavy and I decided recently that I wanted a little camera that I could slip into my pocket or purse. It was hard to know what to get, but I found one last week that, so far, I like really well. I can try it out for 15 days and take it back if I'm not satisfied with the photos. So, guess who I'm asking to critique my photos that I've taken with my new camera?
I just knew you would volunteer for the job! Thank you! And, please, be very honest here. You won't hurt my feelings. I do know it's as much the photographer, the lighting, etc., as it is the camera. Now, all that said, what do you think so far? There will be more photos in the next few days to come. Not tomorrow, the photos for Barn Charm have already been taken with my other camera.
I haven't taken any landscape photos yet. That's next on my photo testing adventure with the new camera.
We had a busy weekend, so there wasn't as much time for playing with my new camera as I'd hoped. You can be sure that I'll make time this week! I do hope you'll let me know if you think this camera is a keeper or if I should try out another. And, if you have a good recommendation, I'd love to hear it! Thank you and have a wonderful week!
Until next time...
I know what you mean about being an impatient photographer. I think the photos are fantastic. I'd say the new camera is a keeper.
ReplyDeleteMorning Cheryl, I must say your pictures are fabulous, love the flowers and kitty, I think it's a keeper, Francine.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, so my thought would be that it's a good camera for close shots. The colors are brilliant!
ReplyDeleteamazing shots. gorgeous blooms. enjoy that new camera. so fun!!
ReplyDeletehave a nice week. ( :
Keep it Keep it and please email me the name of it, my little pocket camera is 3 years old and is about worn out and i can't decide what to buy... this one looks good to me, i want one that takes flowers... i use the big gun for other things..
ReplyDeleteforgot to say if i start another blog impatient photographer is a great name for what i do...
ReplyDeleteWow, Cheryl. Is that just a little point and shoot camera? If so, what kind is it? Those are all GREAT photos. Love them and your eye for taking shots is really good! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI got two larger Canon cameras. I use the newest one more than the other, older model but still use them for a lot of things.
ReplyDeleteI bought a new Panasonic LUMIX camera not long ago and love it. It is a point and shoot with lots of other built-in things that I have yet to learn how to use. I mostly use this camera for close-ups on flowers, bees and bugs.
Cheryl, The pictures are awesome. I think the camera is a keeper, but it is your decision to make, Don't you just love to make them. I enjoyed your previous post about the finches. They have those in an enclosed facility at the nursing home. The patients love to watch them. Have a wonderful day. The weekend was beautiful and we are getting rain. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos and hope that you'll share the camera with us! My camera was so heavy last time I took a lot of photos that I'm sure it affected the shots...my hands were so tired!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of your photos. As usual they take my breath away.
ReplyDeleteThey are clear, positioned well and the subject is relevant (and beautiful).
T
these are great! lovely color and clarity! :)
ReplyDeleteI think they are dang good snaps Cheryl! As soon as I clicked to your blog before I knew you were using a new camera I was thinking to myself what beautiful snaps you had set up. I really think it is the eye and the set up of the picture taker. You shoot some beautiful pictures Cheryl. Are you going to tell us what kind of camera? Is it a point and squirt??? I just bought a new Canon PowerShot for the same reason you did. I got tired of lugging around the big "good camera" and wanted something I could throw in my teeny bag or in my pocket. Also I always felt a little foolish with that "good camera" in some places. But I am having trouble learning to use the point and squirt on Auto. I find the little square box dancing all over the screen drives me insane. I miss the control I have over the big camera's functions. So I set the little Canon to P and it is working out a little better for me.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl Well the above comments say it all however it is your decision and you have to be perfectly happy with the camera.
ReplyDeleteAll that is left is for you to let us into the secret of what camera it is?
Your photos are just gorgeous, sharp and beautiful! I love that red hibiscus. And I must say that snapping red flowers is very hard for me, it makes all of my cameras blur out. So that one picture by itself is a good test. The detail on the butterfly, and the gorgeous yellow lily are amazing! These are the best shots I have ever seen you take, maybe also because you are slowing down. But you cannot be too slow when snapping a butterfly! So you KNOW my next question....what is the camera??
ReplyDeletethese are gorgeous photos cheryl and i love the story of your first camera :)
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so clear with fantastic color! Please email me or share with us what camera this is. I need one and we may get one for our son for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYour kitty looks so sweet napping!
have fun with that camera!
Marie
I think these look WONDERFUL, Cheryl. You will have to share all the details! I love the story of your first camera. Makes me smile! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine that these photos were taken with a point-and-shoot camera! Wow! Your photos are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much to learn about photography. I have had me camera for two years now, and I haven't even begun to explore all its features. I am daunted by the thickness of the book that came with it, so I put off delving into it. Someday...
They all look beautiful to me. I've never seen you post a bad picture. I know nothing about photography or cameras but I know your pictures always bless me.
ReplyDeleteI want to know what kid of camera you are using. I want to find a small point and shoot that still has a lot of options for close ups, and zooming in on far away, and the ability to blur out backgrounds, and and and....
ReplyDeleteI don't qualify for the job....I just point and shoot...and why? Because what I am taking a picture of will scurry away if I don't hurry...ALWAYS!
ReplyDeleteMight I add, you've always taken great pictures, in my opinion....and if YOU love them, who cares if anyone else does or not?
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous pictures...absolutely breathtaking!!
ReplyDeletePictures are FABULOUS... Keep the camera! One has to be happy with the camera they are using. IF this one is smaller and lighter -and if you like it, then get it!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove all of your photos today!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
Oh Cheryl, keep the camera. The photos are fantastic! I love them!
ReplyDeleteThe photos are beautiful....if it is a point and shoot it is a keeper! Please tell us what kind it is. Sometimes a big camera is just not comfortable to carry around.
ReplyDeleteC
I do believe you have found a keeper. Great shots but then it might be the photographer, not just the camera.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheryl~
ReplyDeleteWhatever you are doing...keep doing it! I love the photos of the flowers, I can never get mine to look just right. I love your new camera!
I think you have learned a lot more than you think -- beautiful photos!!
Hugs,
Barb
They are great Cheryl, I'm guilty of the same thing, always in a hurry to take that shot.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog tonight. Your pictures are wonderful! Loved the red hibiscus and the yellow/red zinnia. I'm in Missouri too and am thankful the past few days have been cooler.
ReplyDeleteThe goldfinches in your last post were so cute. I've had a naughty one visiting my zinnias and plucking petals to get the seeds before I can let them dry to plant next year.
I would love to know what the camera is....I just recently upgraded my camera to a Nikon dslr d3200. I'm sending it back simply because it is too heavy..I take a lot of photos. I need something lightweight to take to Scotland.
ReplyDeleteThe camera is definitely a keeper. I am an impatient, fly by the seat of my pants photographer too and I find the smaller camera does very well. These shots are really exceptional in clarity. I want to scratch that cats belly!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean...been taking pictures forever and still get in a hurry sometimes...a lot of times really.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I do love the photos...can you tell me what kind of camera you bought cause I have been wanting a small camera to stick in purse...also is it water proof/resistant?
What gorgeous flowers - they are beautiful. You get cooler weather and we get hotter weather! And your kitty is precious. sandie
ReplyDeleteI think the photos are incredible. I especially love the ones with the butterflies.
ReplyDeleteI had a brownie camera too.
Blessings!
