It started sleeting here a little while ago. I had heard the weather might get a little nasty, so I filled all the bird feeders and then headed to the grocery store this afternoon to get a few things. It was very busy and people were stocking up as if they were expecting to be snowed in for days. Why do we do that? I already had enough on hand that should we not be able to get out we would not starve for several days. But, I needed those important items like...another bag of potato chips, dip, little smokies, cheese and crackers. You know, in case the electric goes out. lol!
Speaking of getting groceries...do you keep an emergency supply of food on hand to last a couple of months or longer? Just curious. I don't hoard food, but I do keep stocked up on essential items. I will buy extra when essential items are on sale at a good price.
I want to replace some of my houseplants as soon as I see some nice ones at one of those home centers. It's supposed to be hard to kill a pothos, but I can do it! And I'm counting the days until spring when we'll see spring flowers blooming. Speaking of spring flowers...do you remember the mystery tulips my daughter got for Valentine's Day? Well, she knew they weren't from her boyfriend and told the girls at work that he wasn't too happy about her getting flowers from a mystery man, so her assistant and another teacher confessed that they got them for her.
Little Tuffy is feeling more like himself again after being sick. He started out by limping and then he began vomiting several times a day. He then quit eating and just laid around and slept. The vet said it was probably gastritis and the limping was from a small abscess. He was given shots and an antibiotic to take, so all's well again.
Commenting on blogs is still a hit and miss for me. I
have had this problem for way too long. I'll type out my comment and
hit publish and it won't publish. I try to remember to copy my comment
so when that happens I can paste and hit publish again. Usually the
second time it will go through. Does this ever happen to you? It's
very frustrating.

Happy Friday to you!

I'm glad your cat is better. No, I don't have room to stock up food for that long! And I don't really have trouble leaving comments either.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Hi Cheryl: Tuffy sure is a cutie. I'm so happy that he is feeling better now. I find it so upsetting when one of my cats feel ill.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, that happens to me quite often. Like you, I try to think to copy till all I have to do is paste. It don't happen on a lot all the time, but always a few. And some days it is a lot of the blogs I visit.
ReplyDeleteIt is bitter cold...no I don't even have a good stock of things. No place to really store and keep rotated. It really isn't a bad idea to keep some stuff ahead. The staples.
Glad Tuffy is better. When our furry friends hurt, we do too. I try to keep canned goods that won't expire just in case.
ReplyDeleteStay warm.
Judy
Hope your little Tuffy stays well! It is so hard when our pets are sick.
ReplyDeleteI do stock up just in case, I always buy on sale so sometimes I have a pantry and freezer full. We could survive for weeks if we didn't need milk or fresh fruits and vegetables. I have begun to clean out the freezer before buying any more meat.
I use Google Chrome as a browser and I hardly ever have any problems leaving a comment.:)
glad the kitty is doing okay. good luck with weather. i don't stock up on too much food. :)
ReplyDeletespeaking of comments, your comments are no longer coming through to my gmail account (blogger is now bouncing back aol and yahoo comments assuming they're phishing by a 3rd party.) just fyi, in case you get the rejection notice, your comment gets published on the blog but if folks don't look there or in their dashboard comment listing, they're not seeing your comments via email any more.
One must have potato chips...crunch...crunch...crunch...when sitting out a snowstorm. No, I do not have months' worth of food. Like you, I try to stock up when things are on sale.
ReplyDeleteYes, commenting has become a challenge. I know you have had trouble at my place. I have found, for whatever reason, if I hit publish before I ever type a word and wait for the red error message, that I can type up my comment and it will not go haywire.
Your little nuthatch is adorable! Yes, we are to get the wintry mix storm in the morning. I confess we went to the grocery store to pick up maybe a half dozen items to get us through the storm. And I somehow ended up with two carts full!!! Everyone was shopping like crazy! And am one of those crazy people.... The bread aisle was nearly empty!
ReplyDeleteLittle Tuffy is adorable. Glad he's feeling better. I have a tendency to hoard food when I hear bad weather is coming. Stay warm during the storm. Hope it doesn't last long. We are expecting 5 to 6 inches between tonight and tomorrow too.
ReplyDeleteWhen snow is forecast for us here in rural France I always make sure we have what i call enough to get us by for 4 or 5 days as we have difficulty getting back up our steep hill. We live off the beaten track, but don't get as much snow as I've been seeing on a lot of blogs. To answer your question about not being able to post comments on some blogs, I have had that problem and like one of the previous comments I changed to Google chrome and it's been ok since. It is annoying and in the end I searched on google to find out if any one could help that's where I got my info. Try that & see if it works
ReplyDeleteGlad your kitty is okay. I probably have enough to get by for a good month if need be (food wise)-plus I could live off my own body fat for quite a while!;>)
ReplyDeleteI have not been having problems with leaving comments since I got off of Google Plus. That seemed to screw a lot of things up for me and other people. Google Chrome works perfectly for me. xo Diana
do you use chrome browser? i find the comments do that more on chrome than on Firefox.. and it is aggravating.
ReplyDeleteglad the kitty is better... on stocking food and other necessities, we always have at least 2 weeks ahead, but no more than that. all we have to do if a hurricane hovers is add a few more things that can be used without power. during hurricane season, i have a cabinet that i stock open and eat things. at the end of the season we start cycling them in and eating them. before i started doing that i found things that has expired 2 years before and had to trash them.
So glad little Tuffy is doing better. I hate it when an pet is sick. The just can't tell us where it hurts. I keep a pretty full pantry and my storm shelter is lined with water bottles that I refill with tap water when the spring water is gone. I keep it mostly for toilet flushing if the power goes out. Too many hurricanes in Florida on a well system taught me that. We did have the threatened ice storm last night and the trees are wearing ice jewelry but luckily, no power lines came down. Stay warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Cheryl, At least the sun is shining this morning, The sidewalk glistens like it is wet, but I know that it is ice. At least we didn't get a lot, I am glad that your kitty is feeling better. They become family. I have food in the house to last several days and have been taught survival by my oldest son so that if the weather was really bad I wouldn't have to worry. I am praying for my son's safe trip home from Louisiana. He has federal grand jury duty. Take care and stay safe. Hugs and Prayers from Your NW Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteMorning, such a sweet little furry face. Love the picture of the Nut-Hatch, great one...Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad little Tuffy is well again. Bless his heart. You asked about emergency food. Last weekend, just before the bitter cold came here to North Carolina, I spent a day cooking things that we could reheat on our woodstove. It's made of soapstone and has wonderful radiant heat; last year when our power went out in an ice storm, I used it for some actual cooking. It took a lot longer. This time I made everything ahead. And the power never even blinked. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteStill cold here but with thawing temperatures on the way.
Tuffy looks so cute. I have had problems commenting too. I learn that most of the time I have to copy my comment before publishing it.
ReplyDeleteglad kitty is better. keep warm!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Marie
Those are great photos. Your Little Tuffy is such a sweet little kitty and I am so glad he is feeling better now. Sad to see them under the weather. I've been having problems with certain blogs also. I wish blogger would solve this problem. It is very frustrating. I also try to remember to copy my comment before I try to publish as I was always losing them. Good luck and have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteTuffy is a cutie and I am glad he is feeling better! I don't stock up on food but we do run to get junk food for an ice/snow storm even if it is a tenth of an inch.. :) Did you hear about Gate's BBQ? I ALWAYS have trouble commenting on Blogger blogs and copy like you just in case blogger munches it! It is 43 degrees Cheryl! Yay!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I love your cat 's name. It's a pretty cat too. I do not stock up food as I should. I am ready for some nicer weather , aren't you? :):) Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeletei try to keep canned soups and such around to eat just in case. i guess the perishable items are what i miss sometimes. the veggies and fruits. we are having ice now. after having snow all day. i was wonder if the hubby would make it home from work today. so wild.
ReplyDeletei understand your comment problems. nice to hear i am not the only one it happens too ... most act like i am a silly person when i ask if they got my comment and they say NO? what i usually do is hit the previous button to the comment i just typed and hit publish again and it usually goes through that time. try that. ( :
Awwww...I'm glad little Tuffy is feeling better! There is something so pathetic about a sick fur baby. :(
ReplyDeleteI like your emergency food plan!! :)
Sweet and lovely photos, and I am so glad that little Tuffy is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteAww... what a sweet kitty looking up at the bird. Glad he is feeling better. They are so pathetic when they are sick. Hope your knee/ankle/toe are feeling better. I have been suffering with the heel and ankle thing for some time. No fun at all.
ReplyDeleteI love your cute Nuthatch and kitty Tuffy! I am glad he is feeling better. We all joke about how crowded the food stores get when they are predicting a snow storm.. The shelves are empty... Have a happy day and week ahead!
ReplyDeleteWhat a winter for our little bird friends! And yes, I have the comment problem often. I hit publish and wait, and then hit it again. Sometimes it takes two or three attempts.
ReplyDeletei am happy to hear tuffy is feeling better! no, i don't overstock on my groceries..i have a hard enough time planning my weekly shopping lol...i wish i was that organized! we are supposed to get a few more inches of snow here tonight....my commenting has been slow due to time, i haven't had the blogger issues that you are, how frustrating!! thanks for linking cheryl!!
