Here's What's Happening In My Neighborhood

Ice coated everything for most of the weekend.  It was a weekend for resting because what else is there to do when it's dark and wintry outside? Cleaning closets, painting walls, and a hundred and one other jobs I could name are still awaiting just the right light and the motivation to begin...and we didn't have it.

Monday brought more news from the weatherman.  Seems like we are to get a lot of snow.

What????

How much???

7 to 10 inches is likely, maybe more.

The snow began at our house around 7:30 this morning and hasn't let up as I write this at 3 pm.

I've been birdwatching and the cardinals, snowbirds, sparrows and a few others are all fighting over the feeders.  I do have another block of seed to put out when the one you see to the right is finished.

We had just sprinkled a row of cracked corn at the edge of the ice-covered patio for the birds.  Now the snow has covered it and they can't find it.  I see them looking for it.

The cardinals are beautiful spots of color in the winter wonderland.   Our kitties have their noses to the window watching all the activity outside.  Wishing they could grab one, I'm sure.

The juncos or snowbirds are sharing the thistle seed with the goldfinches.   First time I've seen them dine at that feeder.

The good news is that our ice wasn't bad enough to cause outages.  The snow is going to be a mess for awhile, as we have some cold temps forecast for the week and there won't be much chance for thawing.

The highways were good enough to get out yesterday and so I went to one of my favorite flea markets in Como which is rumored to be closing soon.  I did pick up a few things as most vendors had sales going on.  An old cheesebox and a few books that will go on my bookcases as soon as I find them.  I haven't had much success in finding the right ones yet that has a matching tv cabinet to put between them.  One thing I did purchase was a new filing cabinet and some hanging folders to get my paperwork organized.  Oh my, so many projects and so little energy to get them done.  I also came up with yet another idea.  Maybe I better tell about that one another day.  Even I'm getting tired just thinking about all of these ideas swirling around in my head of things I want to do!  Isn't this what everyone does during the cold, dreary winter months?  Thinking about what one can do to spruce up the home or to get more organized?   Tell me I'm not the only one!

Note:  Glad I entertained a few of you this afternoon.  lol!  My finger slipped as I was typing the Post Title.  It might have had something to do with a kitty, but I don't want to tell on her.  Then other distractions have occurred since I began this post.  Finally I'm finished!  Hope you come back to read it.  :)

Until next time...

  6. Oh my, sounds like winter continues for you. I think we are going to miss most of this storm in mid Michigan at the lakeshore. Love your photos of the birds flocking for food during the snow. Such enjoyment it is to watch them.
Thank you for visiting me today . . .

  10. It is arriving here overnight and I'll have the boys for the day tomorrow, if it is what they are predicting...12 to 15. Wish that the squirrels hadn't taken over the world. I need to have a fancy schmancy squirrel proof feeder next year. It has got to be fun watching the activity out there.

  12. I can totally relate to the planning and scheming stuff that happens over the winter. There is more time to work on projects, but no motivation. The motivation hits about the time that life moves into faster gear!
Which basically means that everything gets done in fits and spurts. Such is life.

    Stay safe and warm!

  14. Ah---sorry I missed the 'other' post title... Nice that you can blame mistakes on the kitties. I don't have an excuse!!!! ha

You really are getting the winter weather there. It came as close to TN as Arkansas--but nothing but rain here---lots of it... Darn!!! (I'm still waiting for a really nice snow.)

My son and his wife got a nice Entertainment Center from Rooms to Go which is similar to what you want I think. There are bookshelves on both sides and the big TV is in the middle... Good Luck.

    Enjoy your snow.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  15. So far this winter we have only had a sprinkling of snow, where I live in central France. What you are experiencing you would call our snow fall dust. I don't think I could cope. But those lovely birds brighten up your day. I think we all plan big projects to get done during the winter, maybe wait for the spring.

  16. Such wonderful snowy scenes, Cheryl! You have to understand, living the first half of my life in Toronto, and the second in the Med, I DO miss those Canadian winters, more for nostalgic reasons. The older I get, the more I appreciate our temperate climate here on the island.

The gathering of all the pretty birds makes for fine entertainment, especially from the cozy indoors!

    Stay warm!

  17. Beautiful picture of ice coated plant. Snow makes the birds difficult to have their food too. Red color bird having flower at it's head looks very cute.

  25. HI itlloks so cold yet so lovely in your shots. the red cardinals look great against the snow and I just wonder how they do not freeze to death.

  26. Oh....Wow.....that is a LOT of snow! Seriously, as a Texan I can say that our whole state would be shut down with that much snow. We can get a single inch of snow and the store shelves are empty! LOL.
Blessings to you and please stay safe and WARM!

  27. Amazon needs to program its drones to gather your abundance of snow and bring it to our dry, drought ridden state.

  28. Enjoyed seeing and reading about what's happening in your neighborhood, Cheryl. Those cardinals are bright spots of color in a white landscape. We always enjoy seeing them at the feeders, which regretfully have been overrun by hordes of grackles and starlings this week.

  29. Stay safe in all that snow. We are getting more beginning tomorrow.
I loved all of your bird pictures. I feel sad that they are out in the harsh weather; you are so awesome to feed them.
I too have lots of organizing and cleaning ideas but they probably won't come to pass until spring. I am looking forward to the warmer weather.
Loved this one and blessings to you and your family.

  33. It's hard to get motivated when curled up in a blanket to keep warm! We got about 8 inches when all was said and done. Am hoping this next round skirts right around us. We have a lot of indoor projects that we should be tackling when we can't be outside but no motivation to tackle it all. Stay warm and safe out there!
