One more weather post

I hope that this will be the last weather related post for some time to come.  It goes without saying that our weather in this town has been minor in comparison to the devastation left by tornadoes in other parts of this state and others.

This photo was taken by my son on his Blackberry somewhere near here Tuesday.  The old windmill made the sunset interesting, I thought.  And the huge cloud is a warning of more bad weather heading in.

I took this photo looking northwest from my house Tuesday evening.  There was a long line of these droopy looking clouds hanging in the sky.  I'm sure there is a name for these, if someone knows maybe you'll let me know?  They were certainly unusual looking, this photo doesn't really do them justice.

This photo was taken of clouds over Kansas City Wednesday around 1 pm.  This was sent to me by email and possibly was tweaked a bit...who knows...but it is certainly interesting.

Finally, this photo was taken over Columbia yesterday in the northwestern sky.

We had reports of a funnel cloud in the sky spotted just 2 or 3 miles north of our house.  A funnel cloud was also spotted near where my daughter works.  We had quite a lot of rain last night, but no severe weather damage that I'm aware of.

I do not know who took the last two photos, they were sent to me by email.  If they belong to someone who does not want them on this site, let me know and I will remove them.

Until next time...

  1. Most unique pictures. They make me want to learn more about clouds. I see a very prominent face in the first "droopy" cloud picture. Stay safe...

  2. Hi Cheryl!

Wow, those are some pretty impressive pictures - very scary!! My prayers and thoughts are with you for your continued safety, and with all those who have suffered and lost so much in these tornadoes, I can't even imagine what they are going through!

Occasionally, we will have a little funnel cloud come through our area, but it is rare. Today, we have strong winds, about 25 MPH with 40 MPH gusts, pretty typical for Idaho - we have lots of wind! But, that said, I can't even imagine 200 mph winds!

Thanks for keeping us updated, please be safe!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  3. Scary stuff, Cheryl. Glad you all are okay. That is much too close for comfort. We have had rain here this morning but nothing severe thank goodness. We do need the rain --so that is good.

    God Bless...
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. Mammatus clouds in your second photo. We call them 'boobie clouds'.. lol! But not a laughing matter really as mammatus (aka breast clouds) mean conditions are right for tornadoes. It was a scary week. Let's hope for calmer days ahead. Sure glad I wasn't at Como's hobby lobby yesterday at that time. Wow... spooky cloud! Great photos! -Tammy

  6. Those are some pretty wicked looked cloud photos! I saw another shot of teh "boobie clouds" on The Tribunes website.

We had a rough day here in Indiana yesterday. Tornado was spotted not to far from us & I thought the hail was going to break our windows. Power was out overnight but back on now & only damage is a yard full of leaves & limbs.

Still praying for the people of Joplin.

  9. That first photo reminds me of the clouds on my blog a couple of days ago. Thankfully no severe weather in our corner of VA lately.
Hope it calms down elsewhere soon!

Those clouds, pink and droopy, are like none I have ever seen.
I so hope that the weather gives everyone a breather now. It has been a very rough ride.

  11. Hi Cheryl,

It was a wild few days there, wasn't it? All is well here. Those pictures are amazing. I especially like the one your son took. It is amazing what can be captured with cell phones!

I'm still watching Joplin reports in horror. So sad.
